In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on. – Robert Frost
Hey kids – welcome to another edition of Terrific News Tuesday (TNT)!
In case this is your first time reading TNT, this column is all about good news. I know it’s hard to believe, but I won’t be complaining or criticizing anyone or anything in this column today – just writing about some terrific news that caught my attention!
Here is some of the good stuff in this edition of TNT:
- River’s Edge Trail
- Kids Count & Montana
- USAF Academy Band
- New Emojis
- Orlando Shakespeare Theater
- U.S. Men’s Soccer
River’s Edge Trail:
This year marks 25 years of the River’s Edge Trail in Great Falls. (MTN) It’s now over 50 miles in length and it’s one of the wonderful things about Great Falls, Montana.
I salute all those who have volunteered their time and money to help build and maintain this trail.
There’s a Luminaria Walk scheduled for this Saturday to celebrate 25 years. Click HERE to see the River’s Edge Trail website.
Kids Count & Montana:
The Missoulian reported that Montana showed the most improvement in child well-being since last year. Montana moved from 30th to 24th, according to Kids Count, the data tracking arm of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, which focuses on child welfare.
That’s good news. You can see the Missoulian story HERE.
USAF Academy Band:
The United States Air Force Academy Band is performing across Montana this week. They will be performing in Missoula, Kalispell, Polson, Helena, Butte, Bozeman, and Billings.
You can see the schedule with locations and the time of their performances HERE.
According to the website Mashable, bacon, avocado and pancakes are among 72 new emoji officially announced Thursday. The emoji are set to be released in Unicode 9.0 today (June 21) by the Unicode Consortium, which makes final decisions about the universal emoji roster.
Did you know someone makes the decision about what will be on the universal emoji roster? Me neither. That would be a cool job!
My favorite new one is “face palm” although the “bacon” one is pretty cool, too. See the Mashable article HERE.
Orlando Shakespeare Theater:
A big thank you goes to the Orlando Shakespeare Theater folks. Members of the theater group and volunteers created giant white angel wings to help shield funeral mourners from having to see anti-gay protestors. (NPR)
God bless Orlando…you are in my prayers.
U.S. Men’s Soccer:
The United States men’s national team plays Argentina tonight in the Copa America Centenario semifinals. The match is in Houston. It starts at 7:00 p.m. Mountain time and will be televised on FS1.
More info on the match can be found HERE.
