Hello Monday! It’s back to the grind after the Thanksgiving feast!
It’s time for another odds and ends edition from the past weekend! When there are several stories out there that I want to comment about, I combine them into one column and call it “Potpourri” or “Odds & Ends” or something catchy to get your attention.
Today’s topics include:
- Tax Credits for Religious Schools
- Making Montana Proud
- Planned Parenthood Attack
- Oh Christmas Tree
- Be Vigilant
- Charlie Brown Christmas
Tax Credits for Religious Schools:
The Montana Department of Revenue and some members of the Montana Legislature are at odds over the intent of a law which would provide for tax credits for contributions to public and private schools. The Great Falls Tribune explains the arguments HERE. The bill is SB 410.
This little debate will probably end up in the Montana Supreme Court which I predict will not be too kind to the members of the Montana Legislature who want to give tax credits to religious schools.
Making Montana Proud:
I have an update to my November 11 column about Yellowstone County’s emergency and general services director, Duane Winslow. Winslow was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation for his recent drunken driving arrest allegedly involving a county vehicle.
On Friday, the Billings Gazette reported that Winslow resigned from his position. He had worked for Yellowstone County for 25 years.
That was the proper thing for Winslow to do. Other public officials should take note.
Planned Parenthood Attack:
My thoughts and prayers go to the victims and their families of this latest senseless shooting which occurred at a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado.
Like I have written before, Planned Parenthood provides valuable healthcare services and although some may not like it, abortion is legal. Violence is not the answer.
Although there are a bunch of rumors floating around, we don’t know all the details about the alleged shooter yet. The Associated Press has some information HERE.
Oh Christmas Tree:
In a blow to the conspiracy and anti-Obama folks on the right, the Associated Press (AP) reported Friday that First lady Michelle Obama has kicked off the holiday season at the White House by welcoming this year’s Christmas tree.
A Christmas tree in the Obama White House – What the %^%!
The AP is also reporting that this year’s tree will honor the military. Oh my…
Psst… There has been a Christmas tree in the White House every year since Obama has been in the White House. I have even heard the President say, “Merry Christmas.”
Members of Congress return to Washington, D.C. this week, so it’s safe to come out of your homes/bunkers now. You must remain vigilant, though!
Congress has about two weeks to fund the government to keep it from shutting down. They may work on a highway bill and other important things, too. The Associated Press explains what is happening HERE.
Charlie Brown Christmas:
I always enjoy watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” each year. It’s too bad that ABC plans to air it tonight when Monday Night Football is on.
I’m pretty sure Charlie Brown likes football. I doubt he would like to go head to head against Monday Night Football – especially since the Cleveland “Browns” are playing…
BTW, I am not related to Charlie Brown…
