The Sunday Message

Many people have heard the saying, “We Have Met the Enemy and He Is Us” which comes from cartoonist Walt Kelly. Kelly is known for the “Pogo” cartoon.

Today, that saying could also be used to refer to some Christians. Christians seem to be their own worst enemies.

Churches have evolved over the years in an attempt to get more people in the doors – kind of like a fast-food restaurant – it’s a drive-thru mentality. People want it noW, nOW, NOW! I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

But once the people come through the church doors, what is next? One thing I believe is that it’s important not to turn off the new people by being a snobby Christian. These are the people that seem just a little unapproachable or they have a “better than thou” attitude or they act like they have cornered all the understanding of the Bible.

I think Romans 12:16 (TLB) says it best:

Work happily together. Don’t try to act big. Don’t try to get into the good graces of important people, but enjoy the company of ordinary folks. And don’t think you know it all!
