Hobby Lobby: Deep Thoughts

Full Disclosure: I’ve never been to a Hobby Lobby store.

The Supreme Court “Hobby Lobby” case was about a section in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) that required companies to provide access to birth control like the morning-after pill. It was basically about abortion. Hobby Lobby supposedly provided coverage for about 18 different methods of birth control, but they did not want to provide coverage for birth control methods like the morning after pill.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of Hobby Lobby. Now everyone knows about Hobby Lobby and you can’t put a price on the free publicity!

From Montana’s left-leaning male senators we heard statements like “Corporations can now interfere with health care decisions that should stay between a woman and her doctor” and “Corporations are not people and they should not be interfering in a woman’s access to basic health care.”

Another interesting thing pointed out by the left was that the five justices ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby were male.

I think the average age of those five male justices is about *98, which is slightly younger than many senators who vote on abortion issues. They probably got together and drank beer, ate hot wings, and watched football when they discussed the Hobby Lobby case.

*I really did not take time to figure out the average age of the five justices.

Someone else wrote that Hobby Lobby will still cover vasectomies and erectile dysfunction medication, which is good because I am sure we all would hate to see anything interfere with a man and woman sitting outside in two bathtubs.

From the right we heard that Hobby Lobby pays their employees “a minimum of $14 an hour” and the rate for part-time employees is $9.50.  I guess they mean they can afford to pay for their own damned birth control or that money means everything.

Today the righties may wake up from their victory party and realize that abortion is still legal and ObamaCare is still the law of the land. By the way, Obama was also born in America. I hate to rain on your victory parade.

Today the lefties will wake up and realize that abortion is still legal and ObamaCare is still the law of the land. Obama is still President, and we can all hope to be as broke as Hillary and Bill.

So the world did not end Monday with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling 5-4 on the Hobby Lobby case. When I went for my daily walk, birds were singing and people were shopping and going places. The sun was still shining the day after the Hobby Lobby decision – and there’s a good chance that it will shine again today…

  1. I looked at HL’s website store locator. Billings and Spokane are the 2 HL store locations most available to Montanans. FWIW.

    • Thanks Doug – I may have to check one out when I am in the neighborhood. -JmB
