Monday Morning Politics

Welcome to Monday Morning Politics!

This column is where I take a look at some of the political stories that caught my attention from the past weekend and put them in one place for my readers to see. I also provide some commentary!

Today in Monday Morning Politics I write about one subject, the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

Charlotte. Daniel. Olivia. Josephine. Ana. Dylan. Madeleine. Catherine. Chase. Jesse. James. Grace. Emilie. Jack. Noah. Caroline. Jessica. Benjamin. Avielle. Allison.

God has called them home.

Last night President Obama spoke at the Sandy Hook Interfaith Prayer Vigil in Newtown, Connecticut. He gave a very moving speech. You can read it HERE.

Some people took to Twitter saying the President’s speech was too “political.”

Those people are wrong.

The President did say, “In the coming weeks, I will use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens — from law enforcement to mental health professionals to parents and educators — in an effort aimed at preventing more tragedies like this.”

Good. When we gather all the details about the shooter and put as much of the timeline together as we can, then maybe we can see what could have been done differently. It is time our Nation looks at what we can do to prevent tragedies like this because they are becoming all too frequent. Maybe people are finally shocked enough to do something. With 26 dead – and many of them being six and seven years old and with us being in the midst of Christmas season – maybe this has finally gotten our nation’s attention about the violence problem plaguing the United States.

If we hope for any real movement on this issue then all sides will have to come to the table and all sides must be willing to give a little – that includes gun lovers and gun haters. By the way, I own a few guns, but I’ve never felt the need to own an assault rifle. I also never felt that Obama was going to take my guns, either…

In his closing the President quoted Matthew 19:14 in which Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

He then read the first names of all the children who were murdered, “Charlotte. Daniel. Olivia. Josephine. Ana. Dylan. Madeleine. Catherine. Chase. Jesse. James. Grace. Emilie. Jack. Noah. Caroline. Jessica. Benjamin. Avielle. Allison.”

Then he closed with, “God has called them all home. For those of us who remain, let us find the strength to carry on, and make our country worthy of their memory.”

Thank you Mr. President. Thank you.

  1. And assault rifles don’t exist. They are a figment of your myopic imagination. And if you never felt need to own a standard capacity semiauto rifle, that is your problem. Not mine. Just because you don’t see need doesn’t mean others should be banned. And furthermore, such bans restrict freedom and do not save a single life.

Also before police reports were edited, they showed that semiauto rifle stayed in suspects car. Never used. Only pistols. Justic Dept officials edited investigation files. Word is that Newtown Authorities are leaking that their original documentation is correct. Yes this president is trying to disarm us.

  2. We are not wrong bye POTUSs speech was scattered, rambling, incoherent, and politically biased and inappropriate. He and his cheerleaders like you should be ashamed. The man is the most intellectually dishonest man in the world.
