You did it! You made it through another week! Congratulations. To help make your Friday go by just a little more quickly, I’ve written another award-winning (almost) column to help you make it through the day and into your weekend.
For those of you attending the birthday bash for Kim Kardashian (she turns 31 years old today) please be safe! Happy birthday Kim!
If you are a new visitor, Caught My Eye is the weekly column that takes a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week – and sometimes I offer commentary sprinkled with some sarcasm!
This week I write about silver spoons, Gadhafi, conservadems, goats, that lawsuit, an energy tour, we peek inside my political inbox, we talk about getting nailed, and much more! Silver Spoon:
Associated Press reporter Matt Gouras seemed to be all excited when he discovered Congressman Denny Rehberg’s son works “as an executive with a Washington, D.C., lobbying firm.”
He’s worked there since 2008. I checked my calendar and it is October 2011. Rehberg’s child is not a registered lobbyist either.
OK, maybe Rehberg’s son got the job because of his daddy, so maybe he is guilty of being born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
Probably other sons have jobs in the Washington DC area because of their daddies, too. Spouses working for the Department of Justice may have received their jobs there because of their husbands – maybe a daughter-in-law, too.
I’ve never found my silver spoon…
Moammar Gadhafi
The Associated Press reported, “Pulled from drain pipe, Gadhafi was shown no mercy.”
Fitting end…
Conservadems:
That’s the term MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow is using to describe Senators Jon Tester (Montana) and Ben Nelson (Nebraska) for their votes against the Obama jobs bill. You can watch the video HERE.
Ironically, Tester and Nelson are both on my 10 Most Vulnerable Senators list. Last night, Nelson voted no on part of the jobs bill dealing with teachers and first responders and Tester voted for it. The cloture vote failed.
Baaaad Day:
Yep, this story is about a goat: “It was a baaaad day for the Swiss People’s Party when someone got their goat. Now Switzerland’s biggest party is celebrating the return of their mascot, a goat named Zottel, and his sidekick Mimu. The nationalist SVP says the two animals were found safe, but shaved and painted black, near Zurich on Tuesday.”
When I was a child, I had a goat. His name was Billy.
Keeps on Giving:
In what has to be doing substantial harm to his candidacy for U.S. Senate (note that Rehberg’s fundraising numbers are low) the Billings Gazette has another story about Denny Rehberg and his family’s lawsuit against the city of Billings.
Now it is being reported that the Rehbergs want to settle it “without monetary compensation.”
The toothpaste is already out of the tube and you can bet we’ll continue hearing about it from his opponents.
This is a Commercial Break (More “Caught My Eye” follows)
I have to interrupt this column to bring you this important announcement! Since I don’t have a newspaper, television or radio station, or taxpayer money to promote this website, I have to advertise here: The Western Word is free to visit – no matter how many times you click on it. Send this link: https://thewesternword.com/ to your friends and family and tell them stop by! You can even subscribe to The Western Word for FREE! Now back to Caught My Eye…
Americans for Prosperity:
The Americans for Prosperity energy tour visited Billings on Thursday (I guess I missed the memo) and they were greeted by former Sen. Conrad Burns.
The Billings Gazette reported, “Long-winded and as politically incorrect as ever, former U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns blasted Occupy Wall Street protesters and President Barack Obama during a small gathering of Billings Republicans on Thursday.”
And so the Americans for Prosperity wanted to draw some attention to energy issues, huh?
My Political Inbox:
Almost every week I share some of the e-mails I receive from candidates and political groups. Although this week was kind of slow (campaigns don’t realize they won’t get this week back), I managed to find four that were somewhat interesting. Enjoy…
–Preston Elliott, Campaign Manager for Sen. Jon Tester, sent an e-mail with the subject, “Brutal” in where he writes, “Dennis’s budget would be a disaster for Montana families — and that’s why we can’t let him take his ideas to the U.S. Senate. Contribute $5 or $10 to our campaign and keep Jon fighting in the Senate.”
Hmmm, I don’t think I’ve seen a budget at all from the Democrats in Washington for the last 800+ days.
-The Montana GOP sent an e-mail with the subject, “Harvest Dinner Speakers Announced!” and then three minutes later sent another e-mail “ICYMI – Harvest Dinner Speakers Announced!”
Everyone in Lewistown (where the event is being held) is speaking at the event. Just kidding, they cut it down to about 12 speakers. Unfortunately, I did not make the cut…
–Senator John McCain is trying to help out Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown. He sent an e-mail with the subject, “Democrats Intent on Defeating Scott Brown.”
I think that is a true statement…
–President Barack Obama sent me an e-mail with the subject, “1 million” in which he writes, “Our campaign is about to hit 1 million grassroots donors. I wanted to write to you because this is something that only happens once.” Of course, he asks for money.
I just purchased groceries and fuel; now I am wondering what will not get paid this month…
Nail in the head:
The Associated Press reported that “A wildlife rescue group tried unsuccessfully for a third day Wednesday to capture and rescue a red-tailed hawk in a San Francisco park that appears to have been shot in the head with a nail gun.”
Hawks should never be allowed to use nail guns….
G is Missing:
It was almost an international catastrophe at the World Scrabble Championships in Warsaw, Poland, when the letter “G” went missing. The “referees” even asked the competitors to empty their pockets.
After not finding the letter the referee added another “G” to the letters.
Whew…maybe they need instant replay…
Leave Jesus Alone:
For almost 60 years a statue of Jesus has stood overlooking Whitefish Mountain. The Missoulian (that’s a newspaper in Montana) reports “A special use permit from the Forest Service has allowed the statue to occupy a 25-by-25 foot swatch of public land since 1953.”
The permit is up for renewal and some folks don’t think it should be allowed.
I say leave Jesus alone…he’s been there too long and is not hurting anyone.

One More Thing:
Before we put the computer on sleep mode here at the Headquarters of The Western Word, we need to remind you of one more thing: Don’t forget to stretch!

It is my great pleasure to visit your website and to enjoy your excellent post here. I like that very much. I can feel that you paid much attention for those articles, as all of them make sense and are very useful. Thanks so much for sharing. I will be…
Thank you for another Friday uplift…except my computer (as usual) took forever to play the video and I was disappointed it was an ad. I was intrigued and hope it was real? Anyhooo….hope your Friday is grand 🙂
McHappy07-Thanks for your nice comments. As for the video, I think WordPress always puts an ad at the end of the blog posts. Have a great Friday! -Jack
