The glossy 11″ by 6″ postcard I pulled from my mailbox said, “Join us for a lunch event and get an introductory look at the first Continuing Care Retirement Community in Great Falls.”
I opened the envelope and read the glossy flier that said, “Wanted 31 people to try new digital technology in hearing aids.”
The postcard and envelope were addressed to my dear old dad – with the correct first name, the correct middle initial and the correct last name. By the way, my full name is different than my father’s.
Sadly, my father has been dead since December 1996. Yes, 1996. I know this is true because I was there and watched the casket being closed.
Also, I have never seen him since that time, but I’ve thought about him often.
Back in 2008 I wrote about the same problem –getting mail for my deceased parents who never lived anywhere close to my home here in Montana. I also never filed a change of address to have their mail forwarded to me.
I called that column “Mail for the Dead.” You can read it by clicking HERE.
For some reason it continues today and it’s mostly solicitations for hearing aids, retirement communities, and senior citizen stuff.
The person who purchased these mailing lists for these companies probably got ripped off, but that’s their problem. Their postcards and letters just annoy me.
By the way, there’s no way that my father could RSVP for your luncheon or for a free evaluation – but his son almost did – just to embarrass you…
