Caught My Eye…

OK, it’s just freaking COLD, but you can always count on The Western Word to come through with another edition of “Caught My Eye” even during the toughest of times!  By the way, this is the 32nd straight week of Caught My Eye!

This week I take a quick (sometimes sarcastic) look at Psy-Ops, the Montana Legislature, the Tea Party, and I check out some of the political e-mails. There’s a lot more, so read on!

Psychological Operations (Psy-Ops):

Maybe you caught the Rolling Stone story called, “Another Runaway General: Army Deploys Psy-Ops on U.S. Senators” that has been in the news lately. You can read it HERE.

For the record, they did not deploy their Psy-ops on either of Montana’s Senators…maybe because Montana’s senators are not in any influential position with the Department of Defense or maybe because (insert your own joke here)…

Maybe they will now call it Psy-Oops….

Thin Mints Melee:

A lady “was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a fight with another woman over a box of Thin Mints.”

I can understand her anger…I like thin mints. Read the whole story HERE.

Halftime:

The Montana Legislature has their first half in the books. Overall I can honestly say I am embarrassed by some of the bills that were introduced and there’s still another 45 days or so left. There was so much promise…

Hopefully everyone will take a deep breath and come to the table to tackle the important issues facing the state (the STATE). Also, maybe the media covering the Montana Legislature will get their game on for the second half…

Tea Party in Montana:

I actually attended one Tea Party rally a year or so ago – and saw a lot of friends there. I am all for controlling spending and electing folks who want to do the same. But after displaying our flag incorrectly at a protest and seeing some posts on Facebook that were alarming, I decided to stay away from the Tea Party folks.

With the first half of the Montana Legislative session in the books, the Associated Press has a story you can read HERE about the Tea Party in Montana that is worth a look.

Gallup Polls:

As most readers know, I love polls. Gallup has a new poll up about the most conservative and liberal states. You can see the whole list HERE. Montana comes in as a pretty conservative state – I guess that’s why all the state-wide office holders are Democrats and two-thirds of our federal delegation is Democrats…but the conservatives do control the state House and Senate…and, oh my, they DO CONTROL IT…

The Political Inbox:

As my regular readers know, I receive e-mails from politicians and political groups from both sides. Almost every week I share some of the ones that caught my attention. This week the subject seemed to be about jobs…

-U.S. Senator Jon Tester sent me an e-mail with the subject, “The tools to be successful and create jobs.” He wrote, “It was an incredible sight. Yesterday, hundreds of Montanans got together at The University of Montana for my sixth Small Business Opportunity Workshop.”

I’m excited…I sure hope they had a nice lunch…

-The Montana GOP sent several e-mails about jobs and the Montana Legislature saying “Republicans running the state Legislature successfully advanced on Wednesday their top two initiatives aimed at helping businesses add jobs.”

I won’t hold my breath. For some reason they have not mentioned the status of the birther bill…

-In what I thought was a job offer, Barack Obama’s Organizing for America sent me an e-mail asking me to be a “Summer Organizer.”

After reading the e-mail and clicking on the link I found out it was an unpaid volunteer position…

I do want to congratulate the “Official Organizing for America Montana” folks for following me on Twitter. That was a very wise decision…

-Congressman Denny Rehberg sent me an e-mail with the subject, “Rehberg Support of Montana Jobs Earns Him Legislative Excellence Award from National Association of Manufacturers”

OK..I can’t think of anything to say about that…

-A local Democrat forwards me e-mails about the happenings of the county Democratic Party. This e-mail was funny (to me), “It’s the halftime break for the legislature and our legislators will be home for a few days. Most of them will be joining us at Rikki’s Restaurant after work to cuss & discuss what went on the first 45 days of the session. Please join us at 5:30pm to lend support to our friends on the front line of the battle.”

Yes, I feel like cussing, too…

Tweet of the Week:

Congressman Denny Rehberg gets the award for the Tweet of the week. On February 22 he tweeted this bit of information, “Day 1 of my Jobs Tour and already created a job. Sen. Tester has hired someone to film me.”

That actually made me laugh…

Twitter Follower of the Week:

Somebody with the Twitter name @NotJonTester is following me. That is a wise decision to follow @TheWesternWord, but so far, you’re not as funny as @MayorEmanuel

Archives:

In case you want to check out some back editions of “Caught My Eye” there’s an Ap for that! Not really, but you can select “Categories” on the right and scroll down to Caught My Eye and they will all be displayed.

Twitter:

Although I don’t have a newspaper, political party, television or radio station promoting my website or twitter feeds, I have over 400 people following me. You really should be one of them! Follow me on Twitter @TheWesternWord for my independent tweets throughout the day and night…

Most importantly, don’t forget to stretch…
