Happy Presidents’ Day or Washington’s Birthday! I hope you are one of the people who get to take the day off!
Washington’s Birthday is February 22, but the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968 changed several holidays (Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day) to Mondays (to give those observing the holidays a three-day weekend).
Veterans Day was moved back to its original date of November 11 in 1978, which was a good move.
Every year there are several polls out around this time about Presidents. Here are a couple of recent polls:
Gallup asked “Who do you regard as the greatest United States President?”
Reagan came in first with 19% of the vote, Lincoln was second with 14%, and Clinton was third with 13%.
Read the Gallup poll HERE.
According to Rasmussen Reports, Reagan is considered by 37% of those polled as “the most influential president in the last 50 years” with Kennedy coming in second at 21%, and Clinton coming in third with 19%.
You can read about the Rasmussen poll HERE.
The most amazing part of these polls to me is how President Bill Clinton has climbed to near the top. As we get further away from the Clinton years, people remember more about how he balanced the budget and seem to forget the personal issues that plagued his Presidency. Plus, Clinton has done a lot of good things since he has been out of office that has made him look better. One of these days he may be at the top of the list.
As I have written several times before, Ronald Reagan has been my favorite President for many years. I liked the way he put the spirit back in America and made me proud to be an American. Reagan was one of the reasons I joined the military.
Don’t forget to fly your flag today to show your patriotism!
