Caught My Eye…

Here we are, well into February! I just celebrated a birthday so now I am getting closer to the age where happy hour is when I take a nap and it takes me twice as long to look half as good. I am also approaching the age where my secrets are safe with my friends because they can’t remember them either.

I’ll be here all week…

My advanced age has not stopped me from putting together another edition of “Caught My Eye.” Caught My Eye is my weekly Friday column where I take a look at some of the things I did not have time to write about during the week – sometimes with a little sarcasm!

By the way, don’t forget that Monday is Valentine’s Day!

So congratulations in making it to another Friday and enjoy this week’s edition of Caught My Eye!

Naming Buildings:

The folks in Fort Wayne, Indiana, are having a little problem about whether to name one of their government buildings after a former mayor. The former mayor’s name is Harry Baals. Here’s the story.

And to think Helena had a problem with the Max Sieben Baucus Federal Building…which is pretty egotistical to say the least….

AOL and the Huffington Post:

With the word that AOL purchased the left-leaning blog called The Huffington Post for over $300 million, I’d just like to say that if AOL is looking to purchase an Independent blog, contact me…

Egypt:

The most important thing to me that came out of watching CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC cover the uprising in Egypt yesterday was that they need better interpreters.

After Mubarak’s speech, nobody really knew what he said…

The Super Bowl Flyover:

I’ve never really understood why there are military flyovers at domed stadiums. I am fine with flyovers at open air stadiums or domed stadiums when they have the roof open. The one for the Super Bowl cost taxpayers $450,000 according to this story. The Navy said it is a recruitment tool.

Maybe the people who did not have seats got to see it…

The Great Falls Tribune:

According to the Tribune; “Tuesday, Feb. 15, is scheduled for the rollout of the Trib’s new, cleaner and faster website design. Give it a look around 3 p.m. the day after Valentine’s Day.”

The Tribune is part of Gannett and many of their newspaper websites all look the same. I hope they use a different color than a shade of blue for the new website design because most of the Gannett newspaper sites all look the same (except some are bluer than others).

The Political Inbox:

For those of you who sent press releases and political e-mails during the Super Bowl, what the heck were you thinking…

The Montana GOP sent out an e-mail saying “Representative Austin Knudsen, R-Scobey, was absent from the floor today because his pregnant wife went into labor. Democrats in the legislator acted to prevent Knudsen from voting absentee.”

Maybe they should proofread these before hitting send…

The Republican National Committee send an e-mail with the subject “Just In Time For Valentine’s Day” where you “show the most important Republicans, Democrats and Independents in your life how much they mean to you by sending them free GOP Valentine’s E-Cards.”

It could also get you whacked by the person you send it to…

The Montana Democratic Party sent me an e-mail with the subject, “Rehberg and Bachmann, Peas in a Pod” and in it they had a video of Rehberg and Bachmann with Rehberg saying something about Michele Bachmann being President.

I think it’s a safe bet to say Bachmann will not be President…

Congressman Denny Rehberg sent me an e-mail from his campaign with the subject “A Personal Message From Congressman Rehberg” in which he told me he was running for U.S. Senate.

The e-mail was sent two days after he made the announcement….

The Western Word on Twitter:

The Western Word (TWW) went over 400 followers on Twitter this week – and that’s without the help of any newspapers, television, or radio stations promoting TWW. You really should follow TWW on Twitter!

Don’t forget to stretch…
