Congressman Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) sent a letter to Montana’s two Democratic Senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester, urging them to follow his lead in banning earmarks.
In his letter, Rehberg said that the “Senate Democrats may be the last 53 people in the country who haven’t noticed the old spending games won’t fly anymore.”
You can read the whole press release from Rehberg by clicking HERE.
I’d be interested to read the response from either Max Baucus or Jon Tester or both. Their press offices can e-mail me a response at the e-mail address on the upper right of the screen…
Hopefully someone in the Montana media will get a response.
The Western Word (TWW) has covered the earmark issue for quite some time. You can check out other commentary from TWW about earmarks by clicking on the “category” link on the right side of this screen and selecting “Earmarks.”
In Fiscal Year (FY) 2010, Congress spent about $16.5 billion on earmarks. In FY 2009, that amount was $19.6 billion. In FY 2008, that amount was $17.2 billion.
The fun and games of spending more than we make are over for the foreseeable future. A penny saved would be a penny earned…
