Caught My Eye…

It’s Friday, so that means another edition of “Caught My Eye” the (almost) award-winning, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, look at some of the stories that I did not have time to write about during the week.

This week “new” ice cream, an Eagle, Malmstrom AFB, an underdog, shrimp and zucchini, bullying, and being “hot” are some of the things that Caught My Eye.

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ICE CREAM:

Some cities in Montana are having problems with the new medical marijuana law, so maybe the answer is to sell ice cream with marijuana. I think I’d like the TRIPle chocolate brownie kind. Dude…you can read the story HERE.

Philadelphia Eagles:

Eagles head coach Andy Reid named Michael Vick his starting QB for next Sunday. We all remember that Vick served time for running a dog fighting ring. So, the Philadelphia Daily News had THIS HEADLINE.

Woof…woof.

Malmstrom AFB:

Every once in a while those of us who follow news updates see Malmstrom mentioned along with a UFO incident that allegedly happened in 1967.

Truth be told, that’s how I arrived at Malmstrom AFB…on a spaceship. I was dropped off by little green men (or were they women) about 20 years ago…

I saw some strange things and heard some strange stories when I was working at Malmstrom. I never saw a spaceship….but did notice some “space cadets” but no spaceships or aliens (although one or two Wing Commanders seemed to be from other planets).

Underdog:

After reading this story, I kind of feel for former New York Giants WR, Plaxico Burress. He shot himself with his own handgun and was sent to prison on a gun charge for two years. He has 260 days left on this sentence. I think he should be released. He knows he broke the law. He has a support system and he probably would have a job in the NFL.

One funny thing he said is that he gets passes thrown to him in prison. He says, “Everybody thinks they are Elway here.”

His mother always told him “that God will never put anything in front of you that you can’t handle.” He has remembered that since his first day in prison. That’s something we all need to remember.

Zucchini:

“You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. Dey’s uh”…wait, I guess that was the quote from the movie, “Forrest Gump.”  Bubba was talking about shrimp and not zucchini

A Montana woman found another use for zucchini: Throwing it at a bear and forcing the bear to flee. You can read the story HERE.

Montana women are tough!

By the way, back to Forrest Gump, “…shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich…” Yes, shrimp is the “fruit of the sea.”

Hungry yet?

Hottest Member:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid thinks that New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is the “hottest member” of the U.S. Senate. I thought he would pick Jon Tester. Anyway, you can read the story HERE.

Those looking for problems with Harry piled on. The Hill ( a daily publication covering Congress) named Gillibrand one of its 50 Most Beautiful People on Capitol Hill. Only six members of Congress (three females) made the list. There are 535 members of Congress, so finding a “beautiful” or “hot” member is pretty slim.

So, Harry Reid is correct. Besides, who doesn’t want to be considered hot?

Bullying:

I really can’t blame the father who went on the school bus to confront some children who had been bullying his daughter, who has cerebral palsy. He did not touch any of the children, but he did yell at them and threaten them if they did not stop picking on his daughter.

He has apologized and said he should have handled it differently. He was charged with “disorderly conduct and disturbing a school function.” He posted a $2000 bond. His daughter will not return to the school.

I think if he has to pay a fine for his behavior, it is money well-spent. He got his point across and received some national attention for his stand against bullying. There’s no room in this world for bullies.

    • Yep. I did read the book “UFOs and Nukes” a few years back that mentions the “encounter” at Malmstrom. Interesting.

    • I think the same way, although I did read part of the book “UFOs and Nukes” that dealt with Malmstrom. Interesting!!!
