As one who likes to watch politics and who has some views about politics different than the masses, it’s been interesting to say the least watching the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts.
So get your popcorn ready, Tuesday evening will be fun!
From my point of view, it looks as though the Democrats thought this seat was safe – even their candidate took some time off during the holidays as she was up on her opponent by about 30 points in some polls.
Now, some polls show Brown, the Republican, up by about five points on the Democrat, Coakley.
All the big dogs are out to help their candidate. The President was there yesterday. I heard that Rudy made an appearance.
My Inbox has been flooded by e-mails from both parties asking for help. Many have the word “Urgent” in the subject.
Pundits say a win by the GOP here will stop the healthcare bill. Fat chance. It’s gonna be shoved down out throats and in my opinion, the leadership of the GOP is to blame for their lack of support and fundraising for GOP candidates in the past couple of elections who lost and put America in this position.
McConnell:
I watched the Senate Republican Leader, Mitch McConnell, on Fox News Sunday and he would not even predict a GOP victory in Massachusetts.
Here’s the transcript (Brett Hume was anchoring the show for Chris Wallace):
HUME: All right. What’s your prediction in Massachusetts?
MCCONNELL: Massachusetts is going to be a very, very close Senate race. Regardless of who wins — regardless of who wins — we have here, in effect, a referendum on this national health care bill. The American people are telling us, “Please don’t pass it.”
What the GOP has for a leader in the senate is a wimp. Stick your freaking neck out a little, Mitch. If I were the leader I would have said, “Brown is going to win it. This is just the first of many victories by GOP candidates in 2010 as the American people are sick and tired of the spending and having one party in control with no checks and balances.”
No Money for You:
Every time the Republicans (state or national) call me for money, I ask if Mitch McConnell and John Boehner are still running things in Washington. When they say yes, I tell them to call back when they are gone. I have not given them a penny since about October of 2006. Just recently, McConnell blackballed fellow Kentucky and GOP Senator Jim Bunning last year. If the GOP retains the Kentucky senate seat, the winner should take a shower to wash the filth off. McConnell has been in some sort of leadership position since 1998. If he was in a real job, he would have been fired long ago for lack of production.
GOP Needs:
The GOP needs many things and I know this will anger some friends on the right, but what the GOP needs is someone like Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. I don’t agree with the Governor on some issues, but the guy likes politics – and it shows. He loves the back and forth, the debates, the people, the controversy, he just loves the game of politics. The GOP in Montana has nobody like him, and the national GOP is very weak with people like him. I’m sure if the righties open their minds and think about this paragraph for a few seconds, they will see I’m correct.
Thune is a Leader:
I do follow Senator John Thune of South Dakota. He should be the leader in the senate. He’s smart, comes across well and he is someone whom I would vote and work for on in a national election.
