I attended the open house at Malmstrom AFB on Saturday. It was a nice day with lots of people roaming around looking at the displays.

Being one that had to work during many of these “open houses” back in my days in the Air Force, I understand the work that goes in to making the open houses run smoothly. A big thank you goes to the folks at Malmstrom for another wonderful open house.

The Canadian Snowbirds were performing Saturday and Sunday. The Snowbirds are Canada’s military aerobatics flight demonstration team. They put on a great show. The Great Falls Tribune has some photos HERE.

Several times during the show, the Snowbirds planes left vapor or some sort of smoke. One time they made a heart shape. I think some were even blue. It looked harmless, but was it just a harmless vapor or was it, dare I say, a chemtrail?

Rumors used to fly that when planes left these vapors, that were called chemtrails by some, they were poisoning cities with the vapor, possibly through some sort of biological or chemical agents. It is a government conspiracy, the theorists contend.

I remember a friend told me that one Friday a few years ago a man came running up to him on the streets in Great Falls and said, “look at that” pointing toward the sky. My friend looked up and saw the white vapors stretching across the sky and said, “What?” The man said, “They are poisoning us today – those lines are chemtrails and they are hitting us pretty hard today.”

My friend informed the man that it was just Guard weekend and those were F-16s from the Montana Air Guard. The man said, “The fuel used by the Guard has the poison in it!”

One time when I was traveling up in Northeastern Montana, I listened to a local radio show. A man informed the radio listeners that he had seen a 727 land in Kalispell on Sunday and a few hundred feet off the ground, the plane sprayed the city with chemicals really good.

Being one who worked around planes some of my military career, I laughed at most of these conspiracies. I still do.

But there I was on Saturday afternoon standing on the tarmac at Malmstrom AFB looking into the heavens, seeing the chemtrails. I smiled when I saw them. Nobody panicked, or ran for their gas masks. It seems that everyone walked away happy after seeing the Snowbirds perform their show – chemtrails and all. Maybe they sprayed us with happy gas?

The truth is out there…
