Get Out?, Frustration, Happy Happy Meals

Before you head out for summer vacation…
There has been a story, which was picked up by bloggers, saying the Iraq’s parliament wants the United States to leave the country.
I have not seen much about this, if anything, in the mainstream media.
Supposedly 144 lawmakers signed a legislative petition calling on the United States to set a timetable for withdrawal.
It is non-binding. It would need to be voted on, but that may be tough to do as the Parliament seems to have a lot of trouble getting things done (that sounds familiar).
If they ever get around to having a binding vote on this, that will present the United States with an interesting dilemma. It may happen after their summer vacation.

Meanwhile…
The U.S. Senate is hell-bent on getting “something” about Iraq passed and not doing much else, like energy, immigration, appropriations, Social Security, taxes, etc.
Today, Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., presented an amendment to the Water Resources Development Act of 2007 (HR 1495). Yes, a Water Resources Development Act!
The amendment would re-deploy the troops out of Iraq not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of the Act and to not fund the troops in Iraq after March 2008.
It failed getting cloture (getting only 29 Yea votes). Montana’s Senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester, both voted Nay. It’s unknown if they voted No (Nay) because the basic bill contains authorization for several water projects in Montana or if they did not want to be known as stopping the funding for the troops.
The democrats are frustrated.

“Daddy…I got three TOYS in my Happy Meal!”
The “toys” were a lighter, a pipe, and a bag of marijuana.
