Kansas City Chiefs 37 Cincinnati Bengals 3

It was a sad day for Chiefs fans as Kansas City head coach Dick Vermeil announced his retirement. I was hoping he’d stick around for one more year as the Chiefs are close to the Promised Land. I hope that Carl Peterson, Chiefs President, stays in KC. He has done a wonderful job.

The Chiefs needed three things to happen to make the playoffs: Chargers lose (they did), Chiefs beat Bengals (we did), and Steelers lose to the Lions (it was closer than I thought). The Chiefs only got two out of three, so we are done for the year. One can look back and think about what was the game(s) that we should have won. We were up 24-6 on the Eagles and lost. We lost to the Bills 14-3 when our offense stayed home, and we should have beaten the Cowboys if Larry Johnson would have made a block. But, that’s history and now we must look to the future.

Whoever takes over for Vermeil will have the foundation in place: The top offense in the NFL and an up and coming defense. Although the offense is older, I think they have a year or two left. That’s why I think Offensive Coordinator, Al Saunders, would be a good replacement for Vermeil.

As a Chiefs fan, I appreciate all the Coach Vermeil did for my Chiefs. Coach-Thank You! In 2002, he led the Chiefs to a 13-3 record (Tied with Marty for best record ever) and if we would have a better defense, we would have gone all the way. This year, we are 10-6 and did not make the playoffs.

The Chiefs tore through the Bengals today. KC had 537 yards to the Bengals 161. The Bengals will not go far in the playoffs.

Larry Johnson had a great game (201 yards) (the ninth straight game over 100 yards) and, my man, Trent Green threw for 344 yards. He is the most underrated QB in the NFL. But, the offensive line deserves the credit for Johnson and Green’s successes this season. I hope they all return to keep the momentum going.

The Chiefs beat four teams who made the playoffs.

Who will be in the Superbowl? Jack says: Colts and Bears.
