U.S. Senate 2012: Hello Missouri…

I believe it was one of my favorite Presidents, Harry Truman, who said, “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”

I don’t know if Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin has a dog, but he might consider it.  Just about everyone, except for maybe a few staffers and relatives, have abandoned him after he said in a television interview on Sunday that, “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Although the Democrats find what Akin said appalling, deep down they want him to stay in the race.  They know that incumbent Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill has a better chance of winning – and the Democrats have a better chance of maintaining a majority in the U.S. Senate.  As you have heard me say over and over on this website, it’s all about winning the next election in Washington, D.C.
