Thursday Numbers

Happy Valentine’s Day!

If this is your first time visiting The Western Word, “Thursday Numbers” is my weekly column where I take a look at the numbers in the news (in descending order) and provide commentary sometimes laced with just a little sarcasm.

Please note that if you read this column you may be able to use the information to impress your family, friends, and co-workers. Then again, when they find out that you spend your time reading blogs they may not be too impressed…

This week I write about Valentine’s Day facts, State of the Union, unemployment, Carol Brady, Saturday mail delivery, most religious and non-religious states, term limits, 14th DUI, MT Highway Patrol, Minimum wage, and much more!

They Did It Again

Back in February and again in August, I wrote “Every time someone mentions closing a Post Office, local officials cry foul and Not In My Backyard (NIMBY).”

They did it again.  Yesterday the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) announced they were delaying the closing of any more post offices or mail facilities until May 15, 2012, due “to a request made by multiple U.S. Senators.”

Look for another delay in May 2012 – this time it will be delayed past the November elections – maybe it will eventually happen the same day as the Keystone XL Pipeline announcement… Continue reading

Monday Morning Politics

Oh…oh…it’s another Monday, but we’re getting closer to the big holiday: CHRISTMAS!!

Almost every Monday I take a look at the political news that hit the newspapers and internet over the weekend and put it in one neat little package for all to see – with some commentary!

Today I look at Post Offices, the bet, a new poll, airport name, the new judge, winter tourism, spending money, and much more – so read on…

Politics 2012: Campaign Ads

Since we’re within a year of the 2012 Election, we’re seeing more and more campaign ads hit the airwaves – and also some issue-related ads are out which can help or hurt candidates.

Here at The Western Word we’re going to try to publish as many of them as we can find, so if you see a campaign commercial, please feel free to send me the link to my e-mail address listed on the right side of the screen.

Today we have six videos!  They are about Veterans and the Postal Service, Huntsman’s weather vane, Romney hits Perry on illegal immigration, Cain on the EPA, a thank you to Max Baucus, and a thank you to Jon Tester.  Enjoy! Continue reading

Caught My Eye…

If you are going to read one column today, this is it!  Each week I pick some of the events and stories that I did not have time to write about and put them in this Friday column called “Caught My Eye.”

From the number of readers this website receives on Fridays, it appears many of my readers like this column – I guess it kind makes your Fridays go by just a little faster – and it gets you into your weekend.

This week I talk about Pat Robertson, a new computer, pirates, business cards, nails, congress, the Postal Service, what came into my Political Inbox this week, and a new section called “Things you don’t really need to know about today” and lots more!  So get ready… Continue reading
