Yesterday morning I wrote about a veterans rally in Washington where Sens. Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and former Governor Sarah Palin made a showing shouting, “Tear down these walls” and seemingly acting like they had just stormed the beaches of Normandy.
Yesterday afternoon CNN reported that the veterans who put on the rally were not happy that Cruz, Lee, and Palin had hijacked their rally. The group issued a statement saying, “We feel disheartened that some would seek to hijack the narrative for political gain.”
I’m with my fellow veterans, as are most Americans. We also feel pretty disheartened that Cruz and his Tea Party members hijacked our country and shutdown the government.
The hijacking at the memorials has happened many times since the shutdown. As many folks have said, one of the most dangerous places to be in this country is between a politician and a television camera.
I wrote about politicians and memorials last week, saying “As for the politicians and right-wing radio and TV hosts exploiting these veterans to promote their agenda: get a life. Better yet, maybe you should join the military.”
