Many many years ago when I traveled to the west from the Midwest I would always get excited when I started seeing mountains appearing on the horizon. I would drive for what seemed like several hours and never seem to get very close. When I finally arrived at the mountains, I was in awe of them.
When night would come and the sun would set behind those mountains I would eagerly wake up the next day to see if the mountains were still there. They were, and I would gaze at them for hours.
Since I have lived in Montana for several years the mountains are now just a normal every day thing – something that I take for granted. Every once in a while I stop to admire them, but it’s not like when I was younger and seeing them occasionally.
