I’ve made mistakes
I’ve let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world
And I know that you can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

From the album The Struggle
Sometimes in our day to day lives we get worn out. We forget to rest. We go and go and go. Although today’s technology is great, we have a hard time getting disconnected from the world and resting.
Several years ago I attended a staff retreat. It was held at a beautiful resort. There were no televisions in the rooms – just a clock radio. To top that, cell service was almost non-existent. It was like going through an intervention for some of us. During the time I was there, I heard people whispering that they received one bar on their cellphone signal on the second floor by the west window. Many of us sneaked off to that window to read our e-mails and texts – and catch up on the news.
Most of us soon discovered that we needed that time away from technology. We had been beaten down by the fast-paced world we live in.
