It was the cable news network’s big day on Friday when Paris Hilton was hauled off to jail in police car #865. It’s sad to say, but I enjoyed watching it. It beat watching C-Span, Dr. Phil, or Judge Judy. Besides, there were helicopters involved and when helicopters are involved it is a big story!
There’s already a music video out about it. 😉
One reporter was knocked down and broke his microphone in front of the Hilton home (luckily, he had a spare microphone). Then he interviewed a lady who was there so she could tell him what happened TO him. You could tell this reporter has never played any contact sports.
Since most of the non-violent offenders who are sent to LA County Jail serve about 10% of their sentence, it does appear that Paris was treated unfairly for being Paris Hilton. It was also not her fault that the Sheriff sent her home to serve out her sentence. But, it was her fault for the DUI and for then driving with a suspended license. So she should have received jail time and done the 10%. For the normal John or Jane Doe, this would have amounted to about 5 days of the 45 day sentence. If I was the judge, I would have tacked on a couple of days for her showing up late to my court (not the court on Friday, but the time before that). Jack the Blogger hates tardiness.
It appears that Paris will not appeal her sentence and would like to get this behind her. Look for a big book deal and interviews with Barbara or Oprah or Greta.
Here’s wishing you the best, Paris, and we all hope you learn a lesson.
