It was a great day for Amtrak yesterday as the U.S. House passed a bill that authorized almost $15 billion in funding for Amtrak.
The bill was co-sponsored by Congressman Denny Rehberg.
The difference between Rehberg and our two senators is that not only is Rehberg a co-sponsor of the bill that authorized almost $15 billion for Amtrak; he also has a key position on the committee that appropriates the money to pay for it.
Rehberg, unlike Senator Max Baucus and Senator Jon Tester, will be in the trenches fighting for the money on the Appropriations committee in the House.
Baucus and Tester? Well, since they are not on the appropriations committee, they will send a letter to the Chairman of that committee asking that Amtrak be funded. Then in keeping with their normal method of operation, they issue a press release saying they fought for the funding…and the Montana media will go wild in reporting this great thing they supposedly accomplished.
