It looks like the Montana GOP decided today to hold a Presidential Caucus in February instead of waiting until the primary in June.
Of course, the Montana Democrats think differently.
Holding a Caucus in February is probably a good move on the GOP’s part. Anytime Montana can get some attention from national candidates, whether they are a Democrat or Republican, it is a good thing.
It might also increase participation in the GOP. Besides the normal state-wide elected officials and the Republican Legislators and top elected officials at the county level getting to vote in the Caucus, members of county Republican committees and GOP precinct members also get to vote. More people may decide to take part in party politics at the grassroots level so they can vote in the Caucus.
The question is will Giuliani, McCain, Romney, Thompson and others visit Big Sky Country before February? Time will tell.
