Hello, April! Here are the topics for today’s commentary:

  • Political Parties & Judicial Candidates
  • American Leadership Fund
  • U.S. Domestic Worries
  • Army Helicopters
  • One More Thing

POLITICAL PARTIES & JUDICIAL CANDIDATES:

House Bill 39 (HB 39), from the clowns in the Montana Legislature, was signed into law in March 2025. It allows political parties to contribute financially to all judicial candidates in Montana, including those for the Supreme Court, District Courts, and Justice of the Peace.

The Helena Independent Record (IR) is reporting (Paywall) that the Montana Republican Party is making good on chairman Art Wittich’s promise to get more hands-on in the state’s lone Supreme Court contest, with $20,000 in contributions to the campaign of Dan Wilson, a district court judge in Flathead County.

Wilson is gunning for a seat on the Montana Supreme Court again. Apparently, after faceplanting in his last race, he decided the best path to victory was a wholesale liquidation of his dignity to the MAGA crowd. It’s less of a campaign and more of a “soul for sale” sign aimed squarely at the far right.

The other candidate for the Montana Supreme Court is Amy Eddy. The IR contacted Eddy for the story, and here is her response:

“Montanans deserve justices that will protect our freedoms, guard the constitution and hold criminals accountable — not advance political party platforms,” Eddy said in a text to the Montana State News Bureau on Monday. “Nonpartisan courts are a Montana tradition for a reason. I believe deeply that we must keep politics out of the courtroom. That is why I refuse to take money from either political party and do not attend political party-sponsored events — Republican or Democrat.”

I will be supporting Judge Amy Eddy. I hope you will, too. Check out her website HERE

AMERICAN LEADERSHIP FUND:

The American Leadership Fund launched radio and television ads across Montana for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kurt Alme. The ads are titled “Continue Fighting.”

It’s one of those ads that, at the end, says, “Call Kurt Alme. Tell him thank you for standing up for Montana values and America First policies.”

U.S. DOMESTIC WORRIES:

Gallup polling released its latest poll dealing with what worries us the most in the United States. Gallup reports:

As the Iran war intensified in March, the latest Gallup poll found healthcare topping Americans’ list of domestic concerns, with more saying they worry “a great deal” about it (61%) than about 15 other domestic policy areas. This was followed by four economic matters of high concern to about half of adults: the economy, inflation, federal spending and the budget deficit, and the way income and wealth are distributed.

Americans were least likely to be concerned about race relations, illegal immigration, unemployment, and the availability and affordability of energy. Roughly a third said they worry a great deal about each of these.

ARMY HELICOPTERS:

Yesterday, I mentioned the report from the Associated Press, and several other sources that reported that the Army has launched an administrative review after two AH-64 Apache helicopters on a training run hovered near the hillside home of Kid Rock as the outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump saluted their crews.

Late Tuesday, the AP reported that the Army pilots had their suspension lifted, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.

“No punishment. No Investigation. Carry on, patriots,” Hegseth said in a social media post.

ONE MORE THING:

It’s hard to be kind in a world full of people who need a good ass-whooping.
