Thursday Thoughts

Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • They Did It Again
  • School Election Results
  • REAL ID & Noem
  • One More Thing

THEY DID IT AGAIN:

As I predicted, the Great Falls City Commission “voted unanimously during their May 6 meeting to increase sanitation rates over the next two years.” (Source)

According to The Electric, they (Commission) approved an 8 percent residential and 10 percent commercial increase for each other those years, going into effect June 1.

If it seems the Great Falls City Commission increases rates frequently, they also increased the rates in 2024. It seems they can’t say no to sticking it to the citizens.

We need to elect commissioners and a mayor who will stand with the citizens and not the city department heads.

SCHOOL ELECTION RESULTS:

According to the Cascade County Elections website, here are the results from Tuesday night’s Great Falls Public Schools election:

  • Paige Turoski – 8,341
  • Gordon Johnson – 7,611
  • Craig Duff – 7,123
  • Tony Rosales – 4,732

Turoski, Johnson, and Duff were elected. Congratulations!

REAL ID & NOEM:

Yesterday (May 7) was the deadline to comply with REAL ID if you were flying, except it wasn’t.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on Tuesday that travelers who haven’t obtained a REAL ID by this week’s deadline will be able to fly after additional identity checks. (Source

The REAL ID Act was passed in 2005.

ONE MORE THING:

Threatening to impeach judges who check your power is proof you need judges checking your power.  (Pinterest)

  1. I can understand the need to raise rates to match inflation but every year the City seems to raise them by 2X or 3X inflation. Something wrong with that picture.

    • The city seems to think they can raise rates and nobody can stop them. It gets old. Nobody on the commission is for the citizens. -JmB
