Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Growth Policy Survey
  • HB 267 (Bobby’s Law)
  • MT Leg & Transgender Youth

GROWTH POLICY SURVEY:

The City of Great Falls’ Growth Policy Survey is now available to the public! The survey asks about residents’ opinions and vision for the future of Great Falls. The estimated completion time is only 15-20 minutes. Responses to the survey will be used to update the City’s Growth Policy, which is a document used to guide decisions about future growth, development, policy, and capital improvements for the next 20 years in Great Falls. (Source)

The survey can be found HERE.

I took the survey and would encourage other residents of Great Falls to do the same.

HB 267 (BOBBY’S LAW):

Earlier this month MTN News reported that according to the Montana Department of Transportation, 191 people died on Montana’s highways last year with reports showing that impaired driving behaviors contributed to 108 of those deaths. (Source)

Over 100 senseless deaths in Montana. Shame on our elected officials for not doing anything to combat this epidemic.

On Monday, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on House Bill 267, called “Bobby’s Law.” It would create a new criminal offense: aggravated vehicular homicide while under the influence. The name memorializes Bobby Dewbre, who was celebrating his 21st birthday in March 2023, when he was hit and killed by a drunk driver outside Columbia Falls. (Source

MT Legislature & Transgender Youth:

I bet that people who are personally affected by bills attacking transgender people are growing tired.

The Helena Independent Record is reporting that Montana lawmakers will — for the third consecutive legislative session — consider a bill that would make it more difficult for transgender youth to access certain types of health care.

The legislation would make it a felony for a person to knowingly provide surgical procedures, puberty blockers or hormone therapies to children under age 16 in order to support transitioning from their sex assigned at birth. The proposal makes doing so a crime under Montana’s child endangerment laws, and would be punishable by up to five years in prison, a fine of $10,000, or both.

I think this is a personal decision and the state legislature should stay out of it.  I expect the courts will throw out any bill that is passed.

  1. I simply don’t get it. Once again we’re got a bunch of very old, pinkish, bespectacled, white haired and balding MAGA warriors, who should be more concerned about having a good bowel movement in the morning, attacking transgender kids and intruding in their most personal and private medical decisions as if these we’re somehow an existential threat to state! And of course they’re joined by Kristen Juras who distinguished herself at U of M by getting royally ridiculed for attempt to influence the students with her her bizarre christofascist sexual beliefs. That didn’t end well. So why are they back?

As I’ve mentioned previously, the first group that Hitler went after were not the Jews, but the transgenders. Berlin had the most advanced center for the academic study of sexual research in the world. And they were doing cutting edge research on homosexuality and transgenderism. And the Nazis raided it and burned their entire research library to the ground. Hence the famous pictures.

That is the only event from history that I can think of that would be a precedent to our MAGAs in Helena. And they are equally as sick as those Nazi book burners. They need to accept that fact and own it! Most decent Montanans view their endless attacks on transgenders as evil, cruel, and in no way justified! They are way out of line to insert themselves into the medical decisions of others. And the entire medical establishment realizes this. Have they no shame?

“Trump’s election came on a wave of anti-transgender advertising spending during the 2024 Presidential and Congressional campaigns. According to the data that we have, approximately 1.6 million people ages 13 and over identify as transgender in the United States. That is 0.6% of the population. This tiny minority of people was the subject of nearly $215 million in negative ad spending during the 2024 election cycle. If someone unfamiliar with American politics tried to assess life in the U.S. in 2024 only by reviewing campaign ads, the likely takeaway would be that the greatest threats facing the country include trans kids playing sports and receiving “brutal operations” while at school.”

Excellent article on the subject, and the one mentioned at the end of this article is also excellent. These MAGAs are sick, and their hidden agenda must be discussed before all the rights of women are repealed. It’s all part of subjugating women and ending abortion replacing democracy with Christian Nationalism. I don’t think we’re ready for that!

  2. On subject of DUI there’s a recent story about a guy in Bozeman who crashed into a utility crew and when the cops grabbed him up he blew a .32. He “was taken into custody and charged with DUI (fourth or subsequent offense)”.

Fourth or subsequent offense. Other places I’ve lived would put someone with that many DUI behind bars.

Weird thing though about this story. Just like almost every story we see around here with pictures of the alleged criminal, the guy doesn’t look like an immigrant at all!
