Thursday Thoughts

Greetings! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Montana Supreme Court
  • Zooey & Erin
  • TikTok & SCOTUS
  • Bipartisan Spending Bill

MONTANA SUPREME COURT:

The Associated Press (AP) reported that Montana’s Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a landmark climate ruling that said the state was violating residents’ constitutional right to a clean environment by permitting oil, gas and coal projects without regard for global warming. The Justices ruled 6-1.

Of course, the MAGAs went berserk over the ruling with members of the state legislature threatening the court with “judicial reform” and warning the members of the court to “buckle up.” The MAGAs in the Montana legislature are a bunch of crybabies. The court ruled on this 6-1.

“This ruling is a victory not just for us, but for every young person whose future is threatened by climate change,” lead plaintiff Rikki Held said in a statement Wednesday, according to the AP.

Congratulations to the young people who brought forward this lawsuit. Thank you for caring about our environment.

ZOOEY & ERIN:

Congratulations to Montana State Representative Zooey Zephyr and writer and advocate Erin Reed on their recent marriage.

According to NBC News, Zephyr, the first transgender woman elected to the state’s Legislature, married writer and advocate Erin Reed in a ceremony in Missoula on Saturday.

TIKTOK & SCOTUS:

I was happy that the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) agreed to hear the TikTok case. I use the App every day (@BigSky1959) and post there often. I hope the court rules in their favor.

According to Reuters, SCOTUS decided on Wednesday to hear a bid by TikTok and its China-based parent company, ByteDance, to block a law intended to force the sale of the short-video app by Jan. 19 or face a ban on national security grounds.

It was also reported that TikTok said it was pleased that the court will take up the issue. “We believe the court will find the TikTok ban unconstitutional so the over 170 million Americans on our platform can continue to exercise their free speech rights,” the company said.

BIPARTISAN SPENDING BILL:

Are the Republicans starting to implode before they start a new Congress and new administration?

Reuters is reporting that President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday disrupted bipartisan efforts to avert a government shutdown as he pressured his fellow Republicans in Congress to reject a stopgap bill to keep the government funded past the end of the week.

Trump warned Republicans who vote for the current legislative package could have trouble getting re-elected. “Any Republican that would be so stupid as to do this should, and will, be Primaried,” Trump wrote on social media.

I thought the love between MAGA Republicans would last a little more than a month and into the next Congress. They will run the whole show in January. I expect them to implode before summer. The Speaker of the House may be gone before then.

  1. It sounds as though Nope Rosendale will finally see his career ambition of a government shutdown achieved, though no thanks to him but instead to the lies and misinformation about the the spending deal spread by President Musk on Twitter to whip the MAGAs into a frothing frenzy.

And now we’ve got the guy who once promised us he would totally abolish the national debt and railed against increasing the debt ceiling several times, Rump President Trump, calling for Congress to simply abolish the national debt ceiling. Doesn’t sound like this is a guy who has any concerns whatsoever about future deficit spending or plans to rein it in. Just what the MAGAs voted for, an out of control borrow-and-spender.

  2. Boy, that’s a beautiful wedding photo of Zoey and Erin. I hope and pray that they have a wonderful life together in spite of the hatred engendered by tha MAGAs. They’re both exceptional people, courageous beyond compare. Anyone willing to enter that MAGA infestation of a legislature has my utmost respect and admiration. And yet Zoey is a master at it. She’s way too intelligent to be cowed by those kooks.

    MAGA world.
