Caught My Eye…

Congratulations on making it to Friday! Here are the topics that caught my eye for today’s column:

  • Cascade County Elections
  • Trump’s Nominees
  • Brawl of The Wild
  • High School Football Championships
  • One More Thing

CASCADE COUNTY ELECTIONS:

In case you missed it, you should read the Montana Free Press (MTFP) article about the recent election in Cascade County.

This was the headline:

Behind the scenes of a turbulent 2024 election in Cascade County

The MTFP reports:

County resources strained to keep up with demand in this presidential election year, all with a newly appointed administrator working in the eye of a political and logistical storm.

I’ve already said I think the Elections Administrator Terry Thompson should be fired for the circus she and her team put the voters through. People were standing in lines for hours because Thompson did not have enough people staffing the Montana Expo Park where voting was taking place. How many voters left without voting because of the long lines? How many races were affected by these people not being able to vote? It’s disgusting.

Thompson has caused people to doubt Cascade County’s ability to have a fair election.

Yesterday, the county started recounting seven precincts due to errors made by the Elections Department. (Source)

TRUMP’S NOMINEES:

Reuters and other sources reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Thursday he would nominate former Florida Attorney General and loyalist Pam Bondi to be U.S. Attorney General, moving swiftly to replace his former nominee Matt Gaetz after the embattled former congressman withdrew from consideration.

Gaetz, who resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives last week, was the subject of an Ethics Committee probe into allegations of having sex with an underage 17-year-old girl. He has denied wrongdoing. (Source

It will be interesting to see what Gaetz does next. I hope he fades away, but politicians have big egos so I doubt he does. Reuters supplied a little clarity in this ARTICLE

Will Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, make it to a hearing?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that a woman told police that she was sexually assaulted in 2017 by Pete Hegseth after he took her phone, blocked the door to a California hotel room and refused to let her leave, according to a detailed investigative report made public late Wednesday.

How about Tulsi Gabbard? People have some concerns. ABC News reports:

President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for the director of national intelligence, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, has little experience working with the nation’s spy agencies and a long track record of echoing the Russian disinformation they work to expose and to counter — a combination her critics claim should be disqualifying.

I don’t think Hegseth will make it to a hearing. Gabbard will probably be confirmed.

BRAWL OF THE WILD:

It’s the 123rd “Brawl of the Wild” with the Montana Grizzlies heading to Bozeman to face the Montana State Bobcats. The game begins at noon on Saturday, November 23.

According to MTN News, Saturday’s game will be broadcast by Scripps Sports and air on CBS affiliates across Montana — KRTV in Great Falls, KXLH in Helena, KBZK in Bozeman, KPAX in Missoula and the Flathead Valley, KTVQ in Billings, and KXLF in Butte.

The Bobcats are 11-0 (7-0 in Conference) and the Grizzlies are 8-3 (5-2). With their win against UC Davis last Saturday, the Bobcats clinched at least a share of the Big Sky Championship.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The good news is that one Montana High School Football championship will be played on Friday night. The bad news is the rest of the Montana High School football championships will be played during the Brawl of the Wild game on Saturday. They should not have to compete with each other.

According to 406MTSports, here is the schedule:

  • The State AA championship game pits Kalispell Glacier at Helena Capital on Friday at 7 p.m.
  • The State A title game of Laurel at Billings Central is at Herb Klindt Field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • The State B championship game of Manhattan at Malta is Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • The 8-Man state championship game of Belt at Fairview is on Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • The 6-Man state championship game of Box Elder at Bridger is on Saturday at 1 p.m.

ONE MORE THING:

I was wondering if anyone ever found out where this was happening:

“Can you imagine your child goes to school and they don’t even call you, and they change the sex of your child?” – Donald Trump

Or this:

“Can you imagine you’re a parent and your son leaves the house and you say, ‘Jimmy, I love you so much, go have a good day in school,’ and your son comes back with a brutal operation? Can you even imagine this? What the hell is wrong with our country?” – Donald Trump

Old Trump has some of the most gullible supporters in the history of the United States.

  1. Saw a recent comment that seems apropos for this recent election:

If you vote for a monster, it could be a mistake. If you vote for him again, YOU’RE the monster.

  2. The Free Press story almost makes it sound like Grulkowski intentionally tried to screw up the election with the last minute statement about certain county employees not working the election. Even if it is true that Rae’s buddy Sandra Merchant didn’t actually say anything to her Clerk and Recorder employees, what else were they to think?

This election denier crowd has been a real cancer on Cascade County. Though it seems other counties had their own share of problems, without any help at all from our special denier chaos agents.

Canvassing reconvenes Monday at 10:00 am in the Commission Chambers. Could be a very lively meeting. Will be Zoomed.
