Caught My Eye…

Welcome to November! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • The Claim is False
  • Sheehy’s Disdain for Firefighters
  • MT GOP Out-of-State Lineup
  • Panic Time
  • One More Thing

THE CLAIM IS FALSE:

The headline from MTN News kind of tells the story:

No, Jon Tester did not vote to let men compete against girls in sports

MTN News reported that in September, the Senate Leadership Fund — a political action committee backing Senate Republicans — launched an ad that said, “Jon Tester ignored parents who don’t want biological men competing in girls’ sports. Tester voted to let men compete against our girls in their sports. Those aren’t Montana values.”

The final word from MTN News is, “We rate the claim False.”

There has been a lot of lying this campaign season, especially in the TV ads. Something needs to be done about it. Several mailers contained false information. That is why politics is in the toilet.

SHEEHY’S DISDAIN FOR FIREFIGHTERS:

This is probably not the way Tim Sheehy wanted to start the last few days of his campaign…

This week, Randy Erwin, National President of the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) issued the following statement that, in part, reads:

“Our union represents thousands of federal wildland firefighters across the country, including a significant number of Montanans who will be voting in a tightly contested race between incumbent Senator Jon Tester and Tim Sheehy.

“On more than one occasion, candidate Sheehy has baselessly accused wildland firefighters of ‘milking’ fires due to ‘laziness, greed, self-interest, and corruption,’ insisting that the public servants on the front lines of the wildfire crisis simply, ‘don’t want to put the fire out.’

“Sheehy’s comments are not only unfounded and disrespectful of wildland firefighters across the country, but they also show a severe lack of understanding of the essential and dangerous work these brave men and women do to defend our country from devastating fires – especially communities in Montana.

“Sheehy’s disdain for firefighters is out of step with true Montanans and the rest of America. It is elitist and self-serving. Federal wildland firefighters and other first responders deserve better, as do all the residents of Montana.”

MT GOP OUT-OF-STATE LINEUP:

Late Thursday afternoon I posted the following message on “X” (formerly Twitter) and it kind of set the MAGAs over the deep end. Here is a screenshot of the post:

What is not seen is that I placed a California state flag at the end of the post because many of the people listed were born in California. The post (so far) has received almost 4,000 impressions, 135 likes, 77 reposts, and several comments.

MAGAs asked why I hate these people (I don’t). Others were quick to point out that Ryan Busse was born in Nebraska, and Monica Trannell was born in Wyoming. I said, “Thank you.” Someone called me a moron and said it was the stupidest tweet of the day. Someone asked if I hated immigrants. Other comments were more positive.

Nobody cared to ask where I was born. I was born in Missouri and came to Montana in 1989 via the U.S. Air Force. I became a Montana resident in 1993.

If my Steve Daines math is correct, I’m a seventh-generation Montanan. (Just kiddin.)

My former boss, U.S. Senator Conrad Burns was also born in Missouri about 50 miles from where I was born. I remember people bringing up that he was not a “native Montanan” all the time.

One of Montana’s greatest senators, Mike Mansfield, was born in New York City.

Emotions are running very high this campaign season.

PANIC TIME:

The Montana GOP sent a fundraising email yesterday with the following message:

We’ve tried to make it clear that this election is far from over, and nothing is in the bag.

Now, two recent polls for U.S. Senate show Tester is gaining ground on Tim Sheehy again — one has them TIED, and the other is at the margin of error.

We cannot let up in this fight, and we’re asking for you to continue sending your support so we can get out the vote and ensure this election isn’t compromised.

I think the momentum is on Jon Tester’s side. All we hear about Tim Sheehy is the negative things.

ONE MORE THING:

The Los Angeles Dodgers finished off the New York Yankees in five games to win the World Series. The Yankees took a 5-0 lead in the last game, then committed three errors and ended up losing 7-6.

The Yankees may not get over this loss for a long time.

  1. OMG! Right in the NADS! Shady, I don’t know much about the ladies in Minnesota where you’re from, but you mess around with the women in Montana you gonna find out! Good thing you were married when you got here, because spoutin’ your crazy sh*t like you do, you could never think about get laid here, pal. You might as well take your lil Arnold Palmer putter on down to the monastery and become a monk! They like a vow of chastity for being stupid! MAGA!

  2. Interesting to note that out of all the out-of-state politicos on the list, Shady is the one who is either the most truthful or the most stupid. He could care less about trying to burnish his fake credentials as a real Montanan. He simply doesn’t care. Why pretend? He is what he is and lets the chips fall where they may.

He’s the first politician I’ve ever seen do this. It’s a new era and probably a good strategy to take advantage of the state’s changing demographic. Newbies like other newbies, and don’t like being looked down on for being new to the state. Hence, in spite of his numerous faults, Shady is their man. He negates their immigrant status and makes them feel like real Montanans, new real Montanans discovering Montana for the very first time. Virgin country compared to where they came from. A place where they can put down stakes and criticize those who arrive after them. A place to colonize and design to be just the way it was back home!

And Shady helps feed their myth. He’s as arrogant and goofy as the day is long.

Native Vote 2024. Already in trouble with Montana tribes for his disparaging and racist comments about Native Americans, Montana GOP senatorial candidate Tim Sheehy was caught on tape during a campaign stop in August erasing the tribal influence in the state prior to European contact.

Speaking at a campaign event in Maxville Montana, Sheehy referred to the territory that is now the state on Montana as “a backwater, vacant land of not a whole lot going on.”

”In a very short period of time, we went from being a backwater, vacant land of not a whole lot going on, and we came here and turned this into an amazing nation with the strongest economy that saved the world time and time again.”

And now to add to insulting Native Americans and re-colonizing Montana, Shady had taken to insulting our wild land firefighters. The guy’s arrogance has no limits. And yet it seems to be working according to the polls. It’s just a shame that it’s come to this in our beloved Montana. We kinda knew it was inevitable, but did it have to happen so soon? Oro y plata y goofy out-a-staters!

  3. Great news. Much to Swede’s chagrin, Mexico is getting its country back! It’s kinda like poetic justice. For Swede’s sake, I hope the new Hispanics don’t start deporting people of Swedish descent back to Sweden. Maybe Swede could learn to work in their fields. It’s an idea! Or learn the lingo.

Ya gotta wonder how smart trump is to insult the second largest Spanish speaking country in the world. As their MAGA comedian pointed out, they like to have babies! I thought that’s what MAGAs were all about. Forced birth good, abortion and birth control bad. They should be full of joy! Lots of joyous bundles arriving soon! Makes Jesus smile!

  4. Whereas, private for-profit wildland fire fighting companies, especially financially struggling air tanker outfits having difficulties in lower fire than usual years, they want those fires out right now.

No self-interest at all in Tim’s comments. Just a concerned public minded citizen.

PS – Ask Denny Rehberg and Conrad Burns how much Montanans love politicians bad-mouthing our wildland firefighters.

      • Well there’s that, and it was a rhetorical question.

Since you were there, how much effect do you think what Burns said and the resulting furor had on the 2006 election? 3500 votes worth?

      • Stan Jones the libertarian received about 10,000 votes so that was the main reason.
As for the firefighters, Burns met them at the airport after he had met with some landowners who had lost some structures and cattle. He told them the landowners said they did a piss poor job. A staffer for the governor overheard the comments and they were used against him.
Maybe it hurt him some, but the libertarian taking votes that he would have probably received hurt him more, I think. -JmB

      • The firefighter debacle happened at my friends ranch. We had just gotten back from working in the pastures putting out hot spots. When we arrived back at the barns all blackened from ash and wet from sweat we found the school bus of firefighters cooling themselves drinking bottled water under the shade of cottonwood trees.

That rancher friend was a large contributor to Conrad’s campaign and everything he said to him was the truth, a piss poor job.
