The Monday Memo

Here. We. Go. Welcome to a new week! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Sheehy’s Terrible Weekend
  • Trump, Palmer, & Fries
  • Response To Memo

SHEEHY’S TERRIBLE WEEKEND:

The lies that Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy has told are starting to come back to haunt him. Will he be able to run out the clock until election day? His supporters say people are disrespecting Sheehy by wanting answers and asking him to come clean. As a veteran myself, I can’t stand it when other veterans embellish their military careers for personal gain.

It all started on Friday when the New York Times (NYT) posted a story with this headline:

A Candidate for U.S. Senate Says He Was Shot in War. Was He?

Tim Sheehy, a Republican running for U.S. Senate in Montana, says he has a bullet in his arm from Afghanistan. But new questions have been raised about his account.

The NYT interviewed two people who had close interactions with Mr. Sheehy during key moments in the story have come forward, raising new questions about whether the bullet wound had come during his military service.

The Glacier National Park Ranger was interviewed and said, “I am 100 percent sure he shot himself that day.”

As for parachuting into Glacier National Park, the NYT reports that one of his fellow SEAL members said he was with Mr. Sheehy during the training in Montana, writing the contracts for the different activities, and none of it included parachuting, let alone jumping into Glacier National Park.

You can read the NY Times story about Sheehy HERE.

The Washington Post posted a new story about Sheehy on Friday. It’s a follow-up to their original story about the incident in Glacier National Park. Read it HERE

Then on Saturday, the HuffPost released a story in which they reported that Sheehy has argued that “a lot” of wildland firefighters want to let infernos burn in order to rack up overtime pay. HuffPost obtained a recording of Sheehy at a book signing in Alabama:

“There’s a very real dynamic in wildfire that a lot of those people don’t want to put the fire out,” he said at the event, according to a recording obtained by HuffPost. “It’s called ‘let it burn.’ And they don’t want to put the fire out because that’s where they get their overtime, that’s where they get their hazard pay. And for a lot of these folks out there — I don’t mean to cast them in a negative light, but it’s just a fact — they don’t want that fire to be put out, because … they make half their annual income on hazard overtime pay during the summer fires.”

You can read the full report from the HuffPost HERE.

The lies Sheehy has told since he became a candidate make us question everything he has said. Since he hides from the media, we’ll never know the truth. Sheehy does not deserve our vote. He is hiding and running out the clock until election day, hoping he can win by not answering questions. That is not an honorable thing to do.

TRUMP, PALMER & FRIES:

Donald Trump is not fit to be the President. He is too old. He is showing his age and he is exhausted. Trump rambles on about nothing and says vulgar things. He is getting weirder and weirder

The Associated Press (AP) headline from Saturday evening caught my attention:

Trump kicks off a Pennsylvania rally by talking about Arnold Palmer’s genitalia

According to the AP, Trump said, “Arnold Palmer was all man, and I say that in all due respect to women,” Trump said. “This is a guy that was all man.”

Then he said:

“When he took the showers with other pros, they came out of there. They said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable,’” Trump said with a laugh. “I had to say. We have women that are highly sophisticated here, but they used to look at Arnold as a man.”

Are those the words of a man who is in his right mind?

Then he went nasty on Vice President Kamala Harris:

“You have to tell Kamala Harris that you’ve had enough, that you just can’t take it anymore, we can’t stand you anymore, you’re a s— vice president,” Trump said to roars of the crowd. “The worst. You’re the worst vice president. Kamala, you’re fired. Get the hell out of here.”

Trump also staged an event at a McDonalds in Pennsylvania. The store was closed so Trump could be taught how to make french fries. He also used this time to slam Kamala Harris.

Some people said it was nice that a felon found work.

RESPONSE TO MEMO:

Last week I wrote about Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon posting a “Memo to my local Libertarian friends” on his Facebook page

Local Libertarian Tony Rosales responded to the memo. Read it HERE. Also, check out the comments.

## HAVE A GREAT WEEK ##

  1. Gertie

thank you for your response and your comment on Sheehy and Montana values is spot on.
I will look into the Forrestal book. I would also recommend The Defenestration of Prague (can’t remember much else) which really opened my eyes about Soviet activities of the Cold War era.

    • I saw the family of Steelers great Franco Harris endorsed Kamala. So did Mean Joe Greene and Jerome Bettis.

  2. What is it they say about history rhyming?

“On the 2-year anniversary of Burns’ attack on wildland firefighters, Wildfire Today, a publication of Missoula, Montana-based nonprofit International Association of Wildland Fire, summarized the incident like this:

“Burns was up for re-election, running against Democrat Jon Tester. Soon, 1,000 ‘Wildland Firefighters for Tester’ bumper stickers appeared. Tester won by about 2000 votes, and the leading political columnist for the Lee Newspaper chain credited the ‘firefighter flap.’ The Democrats took control of the U.S. Senate by a margin of one.”

    • There are endless Shady commercials that I see daily full of people who appear to be recent transplants to Montana breathlessly attesting to Shady’s “Montana” values. I find these commercials to be disgusting and insulting. Just what are the values he displays that are Montana values?

When did baselessly accusing and insulting our wild land firefighters become a Montana value? We kinda really appreciate these folks for putting their lives on the line for us.

When did major lying become a Montana value?

When did bigotry, intolerance, and racism become Montanans values? Also, when did refusing to admit and apologize for inadvertent racism become a Montana value?

When did misogyny and depraving women of their most basic freedoms become a Montana value?

When did sucking off government subsidies and then pretending to be a self made man become a Montana value?

When did actively working to steal our public lands and then lying like hell about it become a Montana value? We all know what PERC is.

And when did charging an exorbitant fee to hunt on your hobby ranch become a Montana value?

When did acting like a complete out of state jerk trying to impose your creepy values on the rest of us become a Montana value?

You’ll know which commercials I’m talking about when you see them, actors chosen for that certain transplant look to them, sitting around a fire, as if to say, sorry, Montana, your day is done. We’re the new Montana that wants to be represented by an out-of-stater like us. Not a wrinkled, weathered, hard bitten face amongst them. It’s really kind of an amazing commercial for having carefully selected people chosen specifically to project an appeal to others just like them. But it’s insulting as hell to those of us who know better and can see right through it!

  3. And lest we forget Shady also lied about abortion. First he said he wasn’t for a total ban, and then he got caught on tape saying he was for a total ban. (Ban them all, evil, disgusting, sinful, murder) Poor little fella doesn’t know when to just keep his mouth shut. He needs to pat down his rally attendees for recording devices! Any competent SEAL knows that.

But to help him out, I have taken his stance and expanded upon it for him.

    “For those saying the

SCOTUS ruling is just giving the rights

to the states: Let’s go further,

let’s give it to the counties to decide.

Actually, let’s give it to the

    cities. You know what, how

    about we go even further

    and give it to the

    the individual woman to decide

    what to do…….Oh wait.”

How bout it, Shady? You up for a little freedom? Or did you fight to become a little misogynistic Taliban clone to push your weight around here in America? How do you feel about burkas?

  4. Try as I might, I have been unable to wrap my brain around Trumps’s crude remarks regarding Arnold Palmer. As an amateur historian, I have wracked my brain trying to think of another president from history capable of making such lewd remarks in a public speech, and proudly so. Certainly Johnson and Nixon were known to make crude off the cuff remarks to friends and associates in private, but never would they have made them in a public speech to prospective voters.

So I’m left wondering just what the hell is wrong with this guy? His previous crudity about grabbing women was made in private and not meant for public consumption. But this abomination was out there for the entire world to see! Unless one is a trained psychoanalyst, it’s virtually impossible to understand where that came from. Hard to imagine what sort of derangement syndrome is at work here.

I did find the following article which attempts to explain the inner workings of the trump sick mind. It’s the best I’ve found yet.

”As The New York Times reported, “His monologue culminated in lewd remarks about the size of Mr. Palmer’s penis.”

What historians may term Trump’s “penis speech” — the climax, as it were, of his final days seeking the votes of Americans to put him back in the Oval Office — was actually far more revealing about Trump than were his “lewd remarks.”

    • Interesting comment. But might I add a different scenario. In preparation for this trip to Pennsylvania, Trump’s handlers were no doubt feeding him easy talking points. With him being an “avid” golfer and the campaign going to Pennsylvania where, particularly in Latrobe, Arnold Palmer is an iconic figure. They suggested that he mention his past relationships to Mr. Palmer as a crowd warm up.

Then, true to form as a person in the midst of cognitive decline, his brain registered the need to mention something unusual about Arnold Palmer. At this point his memory retrieval process brought back some banter that he had had at some point in time with someone who related the stories about Mr. Palmer’s endowment for a good laugh in the lockerroom or clubroom of some golf course.

Trump is currently going in and out of a phase where his mental filtering mechanism is not working. Hence the regular “head scratchers” popping up more frequently now.

The prospects of Trump winning the presidency in this condition is truly frightening and sets up a scenario where whoever is pulling the strings, eliminates Trump by a 25th Amendment action (unlikely in my opinion) or more likely to my mind an induced medical crisis resulting in death. Very much similar to the defenestration practices so prevelant in Russia.

It is absolutely a red flag to all concerned about this country to the necessity of beating Trump so soundly at the polls that this potential be truly eliminated.

      • Excellent analysis, one which I think is pretty much spot on, but one which I purposefully try not to think about. You’re right. The prospect of a president Vance is terrifying. He is extremely articulate in masking the real MAGA fascist goals. He’s so good it’s hard to interview him. Sumthin’ almost evil in his duplicity.

      • Old Line, your comment about defenestration reminded me of the extremely suspicious death of the Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal, who managed to anger the Israelis to the point that he accidentally fell out of a sixteen story window. He was the most vocal critic in the government of the creation of the state of Israel at the time, and as such was a prime target the secretive group known to eliminate anyone who realized that the creation of an apartheid state in the Middle East was NOT in the world’s best interests. He paid dearly for his beliefs. This book is a must read for folks who take an interest in such things. We are living the tragedy he tried to warn us about today.
