It’s a new week and anything is possible! You heard it here first!
Here are the topics for today’s column:
- Indigenous Peoples Day
- Zinke/Tranel Forum
- Montana AFL-CIO
- One More Thing
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY:
Lee Newspapers has an article about Indigenous Peoples Day stating that while 17 states and dozens of cities recognize the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day, Montana — home to 12 tribes and seven reservations — is not among them.
They also report that while members of Montana’s American Indian Caucus have proposed several pieces of legislation to recognize the day, the bills have consistently drawn intense opposition and failed.
Most people understand why the Montana Legislature has failed to recognize Indigenous Peoples Day – many don’t like Native Americans and feel like they are superior to them. Sadly, we have a lot of racists in Montana.
Recently, Tim Sheehy, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate here in Montana disparaged Native Americans. (Source) He would not apologize when given the opportunity even when urged to by Montana Tribal leaders.
There will be several events around the state celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day. Click HERE to learn more.
P.S. I saw that the city of Helena issued a proclamation. I wonder if Great Falls did.
ZINKE/TRANEL FORUM:
MTN News sponsored a 30-minute forum in Helena on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, between incumbent Republican Ryan Zinke and Democrat Monica Tranel for Montana’s Western Congressional seat.
I was surprised at the 30-minute forum. I think 90 minutes is a fair amount of time for a forum or debate.
One of the more amusing comments came from Zinke, who supposedly owns two Airbnb’s in Whitefish and charges $26,000 a month.
Zinke contends:
“She entered our property and filmed and jumped on our bed—by the way, who does that? Now she films in our backyard, on our street and you know what? My family no longer feels safe—my wife, my daughter, we don’t feel safe in our home because Monica Tranel finds it necessary to violate our property.”
Zinke is always promoting his service as a Navy SEAL so I’m a little concerned that he is feeling unsafe because Tranel jumped on his bed. I don’t think Zinke was in the bed, it was one of his rentals. He should be concerned if she boiled a rabbit on the stove…
This race may be the closest in Montana. Tranel has managed to get Zinke off his game a little, so it will be fun to watch this race.
Read the report from MTN News and watch the forum HERE.
MONTANA AFL-CIO:
The Montana AFL-CIO sent a flier to union members about not being able to trust Tim Sheehy to protect workers.
They contend that “Tim Sheehy was a bad businessman. He would be an even worse U.S. Senator.”
Check out the flier HERE and HERE.
ONE MORE THING:
This will be a pretty good week for sports…
The WNBA Finals (best of 5) between the New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx is in full swing with the series tied 1-1. There are games on Wednesday and Friday. More info can be found HERE.
In Major League Baseball, we are down to four teams playing for the National and American League pennants. It’s the Mets and the Dodgers in the National and the Yankees and the Guardians in the American. There will be games every night this week! (Source)
The National Hockey League (NHL) season started last week. The NBA season starts on October 22.
Of course, there’s football!
Is this a great country or what???
## HAVE A GREAT WEEK ##

Zinke’s “service” in the military was always and only focused on himself. Yes, he was physically able to undergo SEAL training. Physically………just not ethically or even legally. His team members were well aware of his conduct and never trusted him to have their backs. As soon as possible, they forced him out and back to regular Navy ranks. He couldn’t keep his hand out of the cookie jar in that role either. He made it to Commander, essentially pushed up by time-in-grade. That is one of the “up-or-out” levels in rank – Zinke resigned his commission when he realized he was dead-ended, and would never make Captain.
We all saw how he performed as a cabinet member for Trumpsky. It’s a pretty sad situation when that administration determined he was too shady even for them.
See if you can spot the similarity. MAGAs, you’ll have to do the best you can with your limited to non-existent critical thinking skills.
“Why do you rob banks?”
Willie Sutton. “Because that is where the money is.”
“Why do you run for Congress”?
Ryan Zinke. “Because that is where the money is”.
“This would be far from the first time that Zinke’s behavior came under investigation. Zinke was investigated 18 times during his time in the Trump administration and his serious alleged malfeasance and possibly criminal behavior should be made fully public. While the OIG report provides insight into and examples of Zinke’s problematic behavior, the public should have access to a full accounting of Zinke’s issues, since he continues to be a public figure whose questionable ties to industry and apparent disregard for ethics rules require close attention.”
Amazing how being an ex-Navy SEAL is a get-out-jail-free card in MAGA world. Not only that, but corruption and malfeasance seem to be the most attractive qualifications to STAY in office after being found out! MAGAs, still hoping that Zinke’s ill gotten gains will somehow magically trickle down on them. Just don’t tell them that that trickling they feel on their leg ain’t Zinke sharing the booty!

Montana elected one SEAL, and the so far ineffective and totally useless to normal Montanans but apparently quite successfully self-dealing Zinke is what we got. So now lets elect another SEAL with no real qualifications and lots of unanswered questions just because he is a SEAL, because the first one has worked out so well! For himself, anyhow.
Exactly! There are too many of unanswered questions that Sheehy needs to answer. -JmB
The one question I have is how did a dumbass like Sheehy indoctrinate the low wattage MAGAs in Montana enough to be a viable candidate? He’s a nothing, a nobody, a racist loser wannabe drugstore cowboy who has a much inflated opinion of himself! Who is this dipshyt to lecture the women of Montana about what to do with their bodies? He knows as much about abortion as he does about who threw beer cans at his head. He’s a joke.
