SHEEHY’S INACCURATE AD:

PolitiFact is reporting that Montana Republican Tim Sheehy is attacking his U.S. Senate race opponent, U.S. Senator Jon Tester, D-Mont., over illegal immigration, echoing claims that other Republicans have used against incumbent Democrats this year.

PolitiFact reports that way back in 2013, during a “vote-a-rama,” when lawmakers from both parties often introduce amendments intended to force votes on policies that could be controversial with constituents, Senate Republicans forced Democrats to vote on a budget bill amendment to prohibit immigrants illegally in the country from qualifying for federally subsidized health care. 

Politifact says that U.S. Senator Jon Tester, D-Mont., voted against the amendment, but its passage would not have given “taxpayer-funded health care to illegal immigrants.” Such spending was then, and is now, prohibited under federal law, and changing that would have required passing separate legislation.

Tester was reelected in 2018, years after the vote. I’ve seen senators file amendments as a “gotcha” to use as campaign fodder down the road. Most people believe there is too much politics and insufficient governing in the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate these days.

THE CURIOUS CASE: 

If you follow me on X you might have seen me post questions about the gunshot wound that Republican Senatorial candidate Tim Sheehy supposedly received in his arm. I have posted the question, “Dear Tim, Did you get wounded in Afghanistan or Glacier National Park,” several times. No answer. 

Mother Jones published a story about Sheehy’s claim. They titled it:

The Curious Case of Tim Sheehy’s Gunshot Wound

The Montana Senate candidate once claimed he accidentally shot himself. Now he says he didn’t. He won’t release the records that will settle the question.

2020 ELECTION: 

Reuters is reporting that U.S. prosecutors said Donald Trump was acting outside the scope of his duties as president when he pressured state officials and then-Vice President Mike Pence to try to overturn his 2020 election defeat, in a court filing made public on Wednesday.

Reuters believes that the 165-page filing is likely the last opportunity for prosecutors to detail their case against Trump before the Nov. 5 election given there will not be a trial before Trump faces Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

Basically, the report shows that Trump and his people were fine with the riot and trying to overturn the election. The filing was released by a U.S. District Judge after redactions were made.  I think this is great timing!

Of course, this will end up in the U.S. Supreme Court. They could terminate the case or let it go forward.

HEADACHES?

Anyone who has half a brain knows that former President Donald Trump does not have respect for those who serve or served in the military. I will never understand how any veteran could support Trump. 

Military Times and several other sources are reporting that Trump downplayed the injuries of troops who suffered traumatic brain injuries following missile strikes against a U.S. base at the end of his time in office, referring to them as “headaches” at a campaign event in Wisconsin on Tuesday. 

Pentagon officials have said more than 100 U.S. troops were diagnosed with brain injuries following a missile attack at the Ain al-Asad base in Iraq in January 2020. 

We deserve better leaders than Trump.
