Caught My Eye…

Happy Friday! Let’s wrap up the week with these topics:

STICKER SHOCK:

The Electric reports that Cascade County officials spent the bulk of their Sept. 25 meeting discussing how to handle write-in ballots for the November election, specifically, pre-printed stickers with write-in candidates names.

It was reported that Election Systems & Software (ES&S) advised the election administrator that “stickers are the enemy” of the tabulators and “it’s not a question of if the stickers will cause problems, but just a matter of time” since they’ll “gum up the sensors and cause problems with the outstacking.”

I guess placing smiley stickers or stars on my ballot is not good either.

Apparently, some MAGA people want all the ballots hand-counted, but that probably won’t happen. I hope they get the votes counted early, but if the stickers are put on the ballots it may be a very long night.

FORMER RIGHT-WING PASTOR:

One of my faithful readers pointed me toward this story from the Montana Fress Press (MTFP):

Jordan “J.D.” Hall, once a prominent religious and political figure in Montana right-wing circles, was ordered earlier this month to pay more than $15,000 to the Sidney church he once led after a Richland County District Court judge found him guilty of felony embezzlement.

The MTFP also reported about his sentencing:

As part of a deferred sentencing agreement filed Sept. 10, Hall, who was ousted from Fellowship Baptist Church in 2022 amid claims of drug abuse, domestic violence and embezzlement, must also report to a probation officer and abstain from drugs and alcohol. He also may not own any weapons or enter bars or casinos, among other restrictions. If Hall complies with the terms of his three-year sentence, he will not be considered a felon.

Maybe another part of his sentencing should be that he “abstains” from politics. Hall seemed to have a strong following. It was reported that he regularly appeared before politicians in Helena and was pictured smiling alongside U.S. Sen. Steve Daines and Congressman Matt Rosendale, both Montana Republicans. How precious!

CI-126:

I saw on the Next Door app that several people in Great Falls received a mailer about CI-126.

I received a mailer, too. Here are the FRONT and BACK

Here is what CI-126 does:

CI-126 is a constitutional citizen initiative that creates an open primary election so that all candidates of all parties appear on the same ballot in June and all voters can choose between them. The top four candidates, regardless of party, would then move on to the November election. (Source

I doubt the political parties support it, so that is one of the reasons I do support CI-126. I like that there will be more competition, and open primaries give us better choices.

I hope my readers research CI-126 and join me in supporting it.

TALKING BASEBALL:

There are only three games left in the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season.

According to MLB.com, the postseason is scheduled to run from the start of the Wild Card Series on Tuesday, Oct. 1, to a potential Game 7 of the World Series as late as Saturday, Nov. 2. (Source)

My Kansas City Royals are holding on to one of the wildcard spots as of today.

The Chicago White Sox won’t be in the playoffs. They have lost 120 games. Right now they are tied with the 1962 Mets for most losses in a season in the modern era (1900-today).

  1. FYI-DETROIT (AP) — The Chicago White Sox lost their post-1900s, major league-record 121st game Friday night, falling 4-1 to the Detroit Tigers.

  2. Just got a text from “Frank” a supporter with the CI 126 Int.

My response, influenced perhaps by 3/4 of a bottle of red, was concise and to the point. Jungle primaries are a scam because every state which have enacted them have elected more RINOS and Dems. Followed by a short somewhat less than gentlemanly curse words.

Told my kids, their wives, my sis, my parents (dead but still voting) NO WAY on all these commie wish list initiatives.

  3. The sticker story did not say so explicitly, but based on the reporting about the commission’s discussion it seems like the counting machine clogging stickers in question must be associated with the Grulkowski write-in campaign. Apparently on the theory that she thinks her supporters are too stupid to spell her name right.

Rae Grulkowski and the other usual names of the local elections conspiracy crowd – just can’t resist screwing up Cascade County elections one final time.

  4. You are exactly right about CI 126. It takes the power away from the parties and puts it back with the constituents. I hope you also support CI 127 that requires a candidate receive over 50% of the vote to win. Because of the single subject requirement of the Montana constitution there had to be more than one initiative. Without 127 passing, candidates can win with a plurality of as little as 26% of the vote. What really makes 126 work best is that with 127 candidates will need to solicit votes from the majority of voters rather than just relying on votes from their respective parties.

  5. Where are the MAGAs going to find another pastor full of hate, bile, and ill will like ol’ JD? The closest JD got to religion was the fact that he and the MAGAs were a match made in heaven! He was their perfect spiritual adviser. Wacky as the day is long, hypocritical, and corrupt as hell! So much so that our constitutionalist sheriff awarded him a medal! For what I don’t know. But Jesse saw something in him worthy of merit! Maybe his aversion to wearing masks and his ability to skirt gun regulations, and his belief in law breaking law enforcers! Or maybe his declared war on LBGTQ.

But the really great thing about JD was that he did his own fundraising in his own unique way. No need to pass the collection plate or shakedown his flock. Holy embezzlement worked much better. He just reaped what his flock sowed when they weren’t looking.

But all good things must come to and end. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh. Now JD can start that prison ministry he’s always wanted to do. He should have learned what the rest of us did in religion classes. It might have saved him from a life of crime!

And malt does more than Milton canTo justify God’s ways to man.Ale, man, ale’s the stuff to drinkFor fellows whom it hurts to think:Look into the pewter potTo see the world as the world’s not.And faith, ’tis pleasant till ’tis past:The mischief is that ’twill not last.

    • Untortunatelly, there will be no problem in finding one.
only one who wants to live in Sidney!!

      • True. Used to be for twenty-five bucks and postage stamp you could send off and get yourself a doctor of divinity degree through the mail! I know a couple of preachy fellas on the city commission that may want to look into that when they get voted out! With their MAGA credentials and penchant for foisting their beliefs on the rest of us, the title pastor before their names would lend a lot more gravitas to their arguments when they’re canceling pride month! Could be the best twenty-five bucks they ever spent! ‘Sides, they couldn’t be any worse than ‘ol JD!

      • Lots of good campaign material to use against the MAGAs in future races with this fellow. -JmB
