The Wednesday Read

Happy hump day! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Great Falls Public Safety
  • Save America Rallies
  • Inflation Reduction Act

GREAT FALLS PUBLIC SAFETY:

Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon explains in a post on his Facebook page what the term “Public Safety” encompasses in Great Falls.

Tryon writes:

And while our cops and firemen are the most visible components of public safety, there’s an enormous foundation below the surface that is not as obvious to most folks.

He talks about 911 services, courtroom services, vehicles, etc., that are included in public safety.

Tryon contends:

And let me warn you right now, Great Falls: the foundation of our public safety house is showing serious signs of stress and will crack and falter, maybe sooner rather than later, if we continue to ignore it.

In the next few weeks, there will be an all-out blitz to get the citizens of Great Falls to agree that the city commission should take seven mills from the public library and use them for public safety. The people who want to take the money from the library will sensationalize everything they can to get people to agree with them.  They will say “the foundation of our public safety house is showing serious signs of stress and will crack and falter, maybe sooner rather than later, if we continue to ignore it.”

I disagree with the city commission taking any of the mills from the public library. This is wrong on many fronts. One thing for sure is that I will never vote for any public safety levy if the commission takes money from the library.  I will encourage others to join me.

SAVE AMERICA RALLIES:

The Montana GOP announced via email that South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy will hold “Save America Rallies” in Billings, Great Falls, and Kalispell on Sunday, September 22.

Montanans in these cities should ensure their dogs are hidden. If you own goats, maybe them, too.  I think everyone has heard of the “Cricket” story. If not, click HERE

INFLATION REDUCTION ACT:

PolitiFact is reporting that Tim Sheehy — a Republican challenging Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., in one of the nation’s most closely watched Senate races — sought to blame his opponent for inflation in an Aug. 21 X post.

“Two-Faced @JonTester’s ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ increased inflation and drove prices sky high!” the post said.

PolitiFact rates that statement as false. They report:

But the year-over-year inflation rate has declined by more than two-thirds since the bill passed. Although economists say the law is not a significant reason for the decline, the inflation rate’s decline after its passage shows it didn’t cause prices to skyrocket, either.

Tester was the only member of Montana’s congressional delegation to vote for the Inflation Reduction Act. As a result of its passage, seniors will see cheaper prescription drug prices on 10 common medications.

  1. Tryon ought to put together a Guardian Angel tribe like they got In New York, they could run around protecting us from migrants, BLM,the homeless and such. They could wear matching outfits and have badges. I’ve seen him lead parades, he’d be a natural.

    • The matching outfits and badges approach might be more effective than the past five plus years of Tryon’s commission and Facebook blithering about the subject to his devoted followers. The levy vote of last year clearly demonstrated that he’s been remarkably ineffective in getting his public safety message across to GF voters as a whole. No doubt due in part to his “catch more flies with vinegar” approach to public communication.

  2. Shady and the Shooter on a shakedown cruise through Montana to shakedown the moron MAGAs one more time before the election? I seriously thought Shady was smarter than to bring the most hated, reviled, vile, sadistic governor in the entire country to stump for him! What’s wrong with this guy? Is he really that stupid? Did he not read all the comments after every news story about how Noem SLAUGHTERED her innocent puppy? That’s something that only the sickest American would find acceptable. I’d like to attend one of these rallies and film it, and make these sickos famous for condoning puppy slaughter. Shady must believe that there’s a big sadism contingency in Montana. Another big mistake for the outta stater.

But he and the sady lady are going to save America. How? By deporting all our foreign workers who make up at least %19 of our work force? The folks who almost completely run our slaughterhouse industry. Is Swede ready to pay fifty bucks a pound for a T-bone? The folks who do the most deadly jobs in the country for low wages and no benefits. I fail to see how this will save America. Someone should ask these two buffoons while on their little tour.

Or will they save us by their endless misogyny? It seems they’re trying. These two goofs should be allowed no where near the levers of power. Haitians have more to recommend them than these two jagoffs!

    What a joke.

      • Here is the full context:

“We’re going to require responsible behaviors among everybody in the community, and just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs,” Harris told a group of reporters in May 2007.

The remarks came during a press conference introducing legislation that Harris helped draft, which sought to impose penalties for gun owners who fail to store their firearms properly at home.

      • Something a little more recent.

Vice President and Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris claimed her “values have not changed” while dealing with several policy issues during her first televised interview since becoming the Democratic nominee.-Aug. 29th 2024

Once a flip flopper always a flip flopper.

      • The problems MAGAs have is their man is a serial liar and convicted felon. He is hateful and not at all presidential.
Harris is a better choice. -JmB

      • Speaking of flip-floppers never changing their spots, how about that Tubby Trump guy, who 17 years ago was a registered Democrat and 20 years ago was doing things like telling Wolf Blitzer that Democrats did a far better job of running the economy than Republicans?

Now there’s a person who has never held a position he wouldn’t throw overboard in an instant if it seemed politically expedient to do so. Aside from “Donald First”, that is.

      • Dang, Swede. I forgot. You’ve got your own cows. You don’t know how lucky you are. The beef you get in stores is garbage! I could market your beef for you around the world and we’d both be rich! Grass fed, organic, Montana beef is worth its weight in gold!

The only critters I’ve got on my “ranch” is white tails! Hunnerds of them. (I live by the Missouri.) They’re quite tasty but a guy gets a hankerin’ for beef now and then. I’m thinkin’ that you have maybe muleys on your place. You’re too far off the river for white tails.

I love white tails but it’s getting harder for me to hunt. ‘Sides, how many good teeth ya got left at my age anyway? Made some deer jerky the other day while I was cleaning out my freezer, but I have to be careful chewing it now days. Doctors say I should be eating mainly venison and bison at my age now. Has all the good nutrition and no cholesterol. Maybe you should raise some bison too. There’s a market for it with us old guys. I’d buy some.

Up here you can pick out your own bison from the rancher and shoot it. A guy I know used his Taurus Titanium .41 mag and he said he dropped it with one shot. This was many years ago. So I went out and bought one for packing in grizz country. That’s what I carry now. Grizz all over up here now. I trust my pistola over bear spray. Won’t blow back in your face on a windy day. I know, I know. I’m a lousy enviro but a live one!
