Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s column:
- Governor Judy Martz
- Olympic Opening Ceremony
- JD Vance
- One More Thing
GOVERNOR JUDY MARTZ:
The Helena Independent Record reports that a full-size bronze statue honoring former Republican Gov. Judy Martz, the first woman to serve as Montana’s chief executive, will be dedicated noon Monday (today) at the state Capitol. Martz died in Butte on Oct. 30, 2017, at age 74, from pancreatic cancer.
I am happy to see her receive this honor. She deserves it.
I worked with Martz when she was a staffer for U.S. Senator Conrad Burns in his Butte office. I worked in his Great Falls office. She became the Lieutenant Governor and then Governor. She was a fantastic lady and a hard worker, who always had a smile. She cared deeply about Montana.
I’m saddened that the Helena IR decided to bring up the “drunken driving crash” involving one of her staffers in the article about her honor. That happened many years ago, but it must hurt those involved when they hear about it. It seems many reporters want to get that last shot in after a person is six feet under. Shame on them.
You can read the IR report HERE. You can read an article from one of her staffers HERE.
OLYMPIC OPENING CEREMONY:
When there are live events on television, I like to monitor social media to see if I missed something. I watched the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics and I think I should get a medal for lasting four hours. Social media went wild during the ceremony.
Other than it being too long, I don’t have any other complaints, but many others do. I guess there was a sketch or reenactment of the “Last Supper” in the ceremony that was done by drag queens. I looked back at clips and I guess you can interpret that way. Of course, if you bring up “Drag Queens” then this draws the MAGAs to the issue like bugs to my porch light.
That reminds me of what Jesus told the disciples during the Last Supper. He said, “Hey, everybody who wants to be in the picture, get on this side of the table!”
Some people said the robot horse was like the white horse in the book of Revelation. Revelation 6:
The first of the four horsemen of the apocalypse rides a white horse, carries a bow, and is given a crown. The horse’s color symbolizes conquest, and the rider may represent a world leader, pestilence, or the Antichrist.
France was the host country so this was all on them. Organizers apologized to those who were offended. (Source)
JD VANCE:
In what was kind of creepy and scary, Republican Vice President nominee JD Vance in the past talked about a “federal response” to prevent women from traveling to states that allow abortions.
In 2021, while running for Ohio senate, Vance told an Ohio news outlet that he did not support rape and incest exceptions in abortion bans. (Source).

ONE MORE THING:
Happy birthday, Bugs!
On July 27, 1940, Bugs Bunny debuted in “A Wild Hare,” a short-animated film released by Warner Brothers. (Source)

I enjoy watching the athletes in the different sports. If the noise gets too great about the Swift romance, the Kapernick kneeling, and now this Last Supper thing, I quit watching.
Good move. -JmB
So this 23 year old Brazilian surfer could not use his Christ the Redeemer surfboards because they violate Olympic rules. But mocking and blaspheming Christianity is permitted in Opening Ceremonies? Got it. Article 50 of Olympic Charter: “no type of political, religious or racial demonstration or propaganda shall be permitted in any Olympic venue.“ (Except with the blessing of the IOC, apparently.)
Wow. Your response is exactly like this one:

Would have copied the whole thing but your censor may have blocked it.
It’s always best to say/state/link where you’re getting your information. At least that’s what I would like on my blog. -JmB
Am I the only one you check?
Nope. I check stuff all the time.
Unless, of course, the feast portrayed in the opening ceremony actually WAS supposed to be the Feast of Dionysus like was explained, which makes far more sense in the context of games that originated in Greece.
In which case the “mocking and blaspheming” would be merely another imaginary offense fabricated by the pushers of the story line of some alleged “war on Christianity”, who are constantly looking for any little opening to fabricate some outrage, throw a hissy fit, and rile up the rubes in furtherance their political aims.
I am so looking forward to the closing ceremony! Haha. -JmB
According to the Olympic Games Twitter account, it was the Greek Fable the Feast of Dionysus. I don’t remember a blue guy adorned in grape vines as part of the last supper but I haven’t read the Bible n a while.
Haha- I must have missed that part, too! -JmB
The opening ceremony was very……………….FRENCH! Perhaps some remedial courses in French history and culture are in order for our more provincial backwoods MAGA denizens! I’m quite sure that it was no more blasphemous than any Saturday night in downtown Butte in its hay day! Kinda sad that some devout MAGAs would attempt to impose their Gilead values on the French, for the French could care less! And most of the world was entertained except for the traditional sticks in the mud.

When it comes to weirdness and misogyny, Vance is probably the current reigning champion. But our own Tall Tale Timmy gets honorable mention. Timmy definitely wins in the mysterious gun shot category, but he holds his own in the nutty comments section as well. His out of the blue rape comments have become a classic in its own right, causing national commentators to wonder just how weird he really is! He still has time to move up in the standings. I think he can do it!

Thousands of parodies of the last supper painting over the years, but the one that gets the Christian Taliban frothing is a (supposed) one done by drag queens.
At least the Muslim Taliban is consistent and gets upset at every depiction of Mohammed, not just the ones by people whose lifestyles they don’t approve of.
True. Search for “Trump last supper photo” and you’ll see plenty of examples. -JmB
Do Trump Last Supper searches produce more results than Trump assassination searches?
I don’t know. Why? -JmB
Wow you are correct!
Dozens and dozens of depictions of Trump replacing Jesus at the Last Supper table, most as satire but some dead serious about elevating Tubby to the same exalted level as Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Or others making mockery of the gods of other religions, like Tubby as a flag draped Atlas or some gold encrusted multi-armed Hindu deity. Or even blaspheming Judeo-Christian tradition like depicting Tubby as Moses.
Mockery and blasphemy! Where’s the outrage? And those abominations were created by Americans, not some snail eating Frenchies.
The funny thing is that people are posting about how mad they are about the opening ceremony, who never watched it. I know because they hate most sports.
The fake outrage is funny. There are many more important things to be outraged about. -JmB
Let’s see if this one makes it.

The problem I have with that is it could be fake. I don’t know and you don’t know if it is real. -JmB
Rule of thumb:
If it can only be found on X (formerly Twitter), 99% it isn’t real. Probably a fabrication by some paid troll in Macedonia or St. Petersburg.
And the 1% chance it may be real isn’t worth even bothering to open the other 99%.
I guess that is 2 rules of thumb.
