ANOTHER TAX INCREASE:
It appears that the citizens of Cascade County are facing an increase in their taxes.
Earlier this week, The Electric reported that Cascade County Commissioner Joe Briggs told The Electric that though the budget is still being drafted, he is preparing a resolution of intent to raise property taxes.
That’s disappointing.
The three members of the Cascade County Commission are all Republicans. Several members of the Great Falls City Commission lean Republican, although the city commission and mayor are non-partisan.
It seems they can’t say “no” to higher taxes.
I remember when Republicans were for lowering taxes and for a smaller government.
Maybe one of these days the voters of Cascade County will decide to vote for someone other than a Republican.

RESIGNATIONS:
There were two resignations announced on Tuesday.
Reuters is reporting that U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after the agency came under harsh scrutiny for its failure to stop a would-be assassin from wounding former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally, the White House said on Tuesday. (Source)
I watched the House Oversight Committee hearing where Cheatle testified. It was brutal and since it was being televised, many of the House members acted like assholes. The investigations are not complete, so Cheatle could not answer many of the questions.
When the investigations are complete, we may find out that the Secret Service was not at fault.
The other resignation came from U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ).
Reuters reported that U.S. Senator Bob Menendez submitted his resignation on Tuesday in the aftermath of his conviction on corruption charges including bribery and acting as an agent for Egypt’s government, bowing to pressure from fellow Democrats to give up the job. “I will be resigning from my office as the United States Senator from New Jersey, effective on the close of business on Aug. 20, 2024,” Menendez wrote in his resignation letter. (Source)
The New Jersey governor will select a replacement for Menendez. Since the NJ governor is a Democrat, the seat will remain in Democrats’ hands.
This was the right thing to do as he was convicted of 16 criminal counts.
BULLET FOR DEMOCRACY?
Former President Donald Trump posted the following on Truth Social:
The Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!
ONE MORE THING:
Weiner down!
The New York Times is reporting that just after 11 a.m. Monday, employees of Oscar Mayer were driving one of the company’s promotional Wienermobiles on an Illinois highway when the driver hit another car, lost control, overcorrected and rolled the vehicle on its side, the Illinois State Police said. No one was injured in the crash, but the right northbound lane of Interstate 294 near the suburb of Oak Brook was closed for about an hour, the police said. (Source)
Is this a great country or what?

Menendez should’ve been indicted over a decade ago. I guess charging vacations with his mistress’ on the ol’ work credit card finally caught up to him. About time!
DJT saying he took a bullet for “democracy” is cringe–but accurate.
You know those primaries “Democrats” had? They didn’t matter. The democrat party is picking your candidate for you, regardless of who you voted for. So who are the real defenders of democracy this election?
At least nobody was hurt in the weiner crash!
Thanks for your comments. I think Menendez was indicted before and it ended in a hung jury. He will probably do some time after these guilty verdicts.
As for picking my candidate for me, I don’t think that really matters to most Dems, which I am not one. If Harris loses, they may complain then.
As for Trump, he’s morally and ethically bankrupt. He has never received my vote and never will. – JmB
Time to nationalize these bastards!

Just who is Vance? He’s even nuttier than you thought.

Menendez retiring is overdue. Funny how he picked August 20th so he can get one last paycheck. They are paid on the 5th and 20th of each month.
Probably helps his staffers, too. -JmB
Perhaps Tubby Trump wouldn’t have been “forced” to take a bullet for his fascist vison of “democracy” if his Republican buddies in Congress hadn’t starved the Secret Service’s budget and manpower for the past 10 years, starting with the good old days of budget cap “sequester” they forced on the Obama administration, and continuing through Tubby’s own four wasted years in the Oval when he and Congress did little to nothing to resolve the issue. SS only finally got meaningful extra money – for 2025 – in the budget this year. Probably because the Repubs anticipated Tubby would be in office then.
