Greetings! Here are the topics that made today’s column:
- Public Safety Advisory Committee
- Sheehy’s Lies Are Stacking Up
- That Denzel Washington Quote
- Stanley Cup Final Game 7
PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE:
The Great Falls Public Safety Advisory Committee held its fourth meeting on July 19, and of the ten members, it was reported by The Electric that only six showed up.
Maybe some committee members don’t feel having an advisory committee is worth showing up for.
The Electric reported that most discussion centered on conducting a public safety poll or community survey.
I think the city had a pretty decent poll conducted during the levy election, where the two requests were soundly defeated by the voters. They spent up to $150,000 to hire an outside group to promote the levies. City staff members probably spent hundreds of hours discussing the merits of the levy.
I don’t want the city to use my tax dollars to hire someone to conduct a survey or poll. Stop spending taxpayer money to convince people to vote for higher taxes.
Check out the article from The Electric HERE.
SHEEHY’S LIES ARE STACKING UP:
The Montana Democrats have a new website dedicated to the lies they contend have been made by Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy.
The website offers details and articles about Sheehy’s gunshot wound, that he claims he is a cowboy, that he grew up in a rural area, his business, and how his business got its start.
The sad thing about Sheehy is that the MAGA folks have supported Donald Trump with his thousands of lies, so I don’t see them changing in their support for Sheehy. They like candidates who don’t tell the truth.
The website is shadysheehylies.com. Check it out HERE.
THAT DENZEL WASHINGTON QUOTE:
I have seen several people, including a Great Falls City Commissioner post the following quote that is shown on a photo of Denzel Washington:
“You’ll never be criticized by someone who is doing more than you. You’ll always be criticized by someone doing less. Remember that.”
Several fact-checking websites, including Snopes, say that quote is “misattributed” and there’s no proof that Washington ever said it.
I like the following information from Snopes:
In these kinds of situations where a motivational quote is shown to have been misattributed to a famous person, it’s common for people to defend the misattribution by saying the celebrity likely would agree with the message conveyed in the quote anyway. However, even if that were true in this case, it wouldn’t change the fact that there was no proof of Washington ever saying it before the quote memes appeared online.
I have noticed that MAGA folks like to do this when they post fake info and are called out about it.

STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 7:
From NHL.com:
Welcome to the unimaginable.
Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final has been played 17 times since 1942, most recently in 2019 and before that 2011, 2009, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2001 and 10 times before the turn of the century.
But not since 1945 has Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final been necessary after a team took a 3-0 lead in the series.
Not until now that is, or, rather, Monday, when the Panthers and Edmonton Oilers play Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, play for everything from the Stanley Cup to history to legacies at Amerant Bank Arena (8 p.m. ET; ABC, ESPN+, SN, TVAS, CBC).
An Oilers win and they will be the first team since the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup after falling behind 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final. They are already the first team since the 1945 Detroit Red Wings to force a Game 7 after falling behind 3-0 in the Cup Final.
An Oilers win and they will forever be remembered as the team that did what seemed impossible.

For me, watching the Thurs presidential debate would be as beneficial as watching a cage match. But I’ve never seen a cage match.
It’s probably gonna be a lot like two old guys fighting over the last cup of applesauce at the nursing home. -JmB
all the stupid lies about gunshots and growing up just distract from all the lies about abortion the border jon testers voting record and all the other BS he spewed at that debate a few weeks ago. those lies matter way more
It seems that Sheehy’s lies just pile up. It’s amazing that this race will even be close. -JmB
Yes but, allow me to explain to all of those who’ve never served in war time. Lying about one’s military record is indeed kinda of a big deal for us. To prostitute your military service to advance yourself is to insult all who served honorably and never considered insulting all their comrades who never made it back. For they are the real heroes. If you can’t deal honestly with an accurate record like a DD 214, you’re hiding something. Sheehy, by his failure to come clean with his military records, insults all my comrades in arms who served and didn’t lie about what they’d done.
We did horrific things in Vietnam, things that most people don’t know about and would find abhorrent. All wars are the same. I’m sure that Sheehy’s generation did the same. But those things are best left unsaid and laid to rest. It’s something all vets have to live with. To resurrect and glorify your military service as somehow making you qualified to be in the senate is about as low as a snake’s belly. Sheehy is to be pitied. His name is forever tainted as profiting off the sacrifices of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. He is not worthy to represent Montana, a state known for courage not pusillanimity.
What a great comment. I am not qualified to say those words but I understand them to be true. My little town has two Medal of Honor recipients. They along with scores of others would be rolling in their graves at Sheehys antics.
Snopes, just read headline that they fact checked as not true the Nazis “Very fine people” Trump statement as Untrue.
Another case of the need to read beyond headlines, including in this case the “Editor’s Note” on that entry.
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-very-fine-people/
That was one of the most drawn-out fact checks I’ve seen from Snopes. Final paragraph sums it up:
In sum, while Trump did say that there were “very fine people on both sides,” he also specifically noted that he was not talking about neo-Nazis and white supremacists and said they should be “condemned totally.” Therefore, we have rated this claim “False.”
Problem was, it was a “Unite the Right” of extremist groups rally.and everyone there was neo-Nazis and white supremacists. As evidenced by the tiki torch march chanting “Jews will not teplace us”. There was no somebody else for Trump.to.call good people.
Interestingly that even the wackdoodle Arizona GOP would dump a guy for lying, but not our Montana MAGAs. They love liars! They consider it a positive character trait! The Trumpier the better they figure. Arizona vets are outraged that their guy doctored his DD214. We haven’t even seen Sure Shot Sheehy’s! Guess he doesn’t know how to use white out!
