WTF406.COM GUEST WRITER:

The fine folks over at WTF406.com asked if they could repost part of one of my columns titled, “Bigots, Jackasses, Homophobes, & Racists” on their blog and I happily said yes.

You can check it out HERE.

All media are welcome to use my blog posts on their websites. I only ask that they give me credit and list my blog address. The Western Word columns have been seen in many daily newspapers across Montana, as well as Yahoo and on the San Antonio Express-News websites. The Great Falls Tribune has featured all or part of my columns over 35 times.

TRYON: I STAND WITH OUR MAYOR:

Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon posted the following on his Facebook page recently:

No big surprise that the whiny wokies and slimy media are going ballistic and doing their best to smear Mayor Cory Reeves and our city using name calling and emotional extortion.
I stand with our Mayor and our city 100%.
Both in his private and public life, Cory Reeves has done more for the people of this community and its marginalized members than all of the arrogant, privileged little social justice warriors who are currently throwing their temper tantrums combined.
Great Falls won’t be bullied into submission by big mouths.
I’m calling on the silent majority in our community to let Mayor Reeves know how much we support and appreciate his service.
PLEASE SHARE THE POOP OUT OF THIS.

The article in USA Today about Mayor Reeves’s decision not to acknowledge Pride Week has painted Great Falls negatively. The sad thing is that the article hit the nail on the head.

Unlike Tryon, I can’t “stand” with the mayor on this decision. The mayor has set Great Falls back 30 years. It will be interesting to see what he has in store for the remainder of this term.

TRUMP’S FATHER’S DAY MESSAGE:

Former President Donald Trump issued an interesting Father’s Day message via Truth Social (in all caps):

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE RADICAL LEFT DEGENERATES THAT ARE RAPIDLY BRINGING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA INTO THIRD WORLD NATION STATUS WITH THEIR MANY ATTEMPTS AT TRYING TO INFLUENCE OUR SACRED COURT SYSTEM INTO BREAKING TO THEIR VERY SICK AND DANGEROUS WILL. WE NEED STRENGTH AND LOYALTY TO OUR COUNTRY, AND ITS WONDERFUL CONSTITUTION. EVERYTHING WILL BE ON FULL DISPLAY COME NOVEMBER 5TH, 2024 – THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

On the other hand, President Joe Biden posted this message via X:

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, pops, and father figures who have shown us guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love.

So, guess which one I think is an asshole?

ONE MORE THING:

Here are the lyrics that are stuck in my head this week:

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
’65, I was 17 and running up 101
I don’t know where I’m running now, I’m just running on
Running on (running on empty)
Running on (running blind)
Running on (running into the sun)
But I’m running behind

  1. I see on local activist Jasmine Taylor’s Facebook page that some of Great Falls’ finest humans have been out plastering downtown with homophobic stickers. Again.

Sure, we don’t need any City support for our LGBTQ neighbors in the face of that kind of hatred. Just ignore it. Maybe it will go away. And maybe not. Just don’t push it in people’s faces.

And will Commissioner Tryon issue a blistering outraged/offended/whatever condemnation of those stickers at tomorrow night’s commission meeting? My guess is a hard “nope” on that.

    • I imagine you’re right about this being brought up at the next commission meeting.
The sad thing is this did not have to happen. The mayor has empowered the racists. -JmB

      • I wouldn’t assume the mayor’s recent action had anything to do with these latest stickers. Things like this seem to be a regular occurrence during pride month.

The mayor’s action in turning a blind eye to that is what’s disappointing. Maybe it’s part of a new City marketing campaign, “Most Hateful Little City in America!” Can’t attract 21st century employers and jobs and the type of workers needed to fill those? No problem, turn your sights instead to the white Christian nationalist crowd, the ones who can’t afford Lake County.

  2. Jackson Brown, was called the “White man’s James Brown” in my lilly white borough outside of Pittsburgh where I grew up. That was a town where your friends were racist or you wouldn’t have any. They thought I just didn’t understand.

I think the preteen Trans side of LGBTQ+ has upset the apple cart of acceptance.

  3. Wow. I haven’t seen MAGA mouse this mad since his so called safety budget was laughed out of existence! You can almost see the veins as thick as ropes popping out on his forehead as he angrily jumps up and down red faced while striving to conjure just the right adjectives to insult his slimy, whiney constituents, spittle flying everywhere.

In any event, I took Rick’s advice and did my best to try to extirpate the “poop” from his diatribe. And shockingly what I discovered was that once the poop was removed, there was basically nothing left!

What we are left with is two guys that are too stupid to understand that governing by fiat on such a critical and important issue just might arouse some outrage and condemnation from the public. Did they really not think that maybe there should have been some discussion allowed beforehand? One commissioner stated that it “came out of the blue.” Not quite. A move like this had to come out of someone’s dairy air, not the best method of governance.

Is this payback for not passing the safety budget? Are they spiteful enough to use this as revenge and a backhanded way to let us know who’s in charge? Ironically the cancellation of pride will make the community less safe for the gay population. And yes, Ricky, whether you like it or not, that could be considered hate. It cost nothing to leave things as they were. Now, tragically, it will cause harm. And folks who cause harm should not be power. The good that Cory has done in the community that MAGA mouse mentions is rapidly being diminished. I think the public can discern who the real bullies are in this situation. And to cause harm to others and pretend that you are the real victim is about as whiny wimpy as it gets.

Hence, in conclusion, once you remove the poop as he suggested, the only thing we’re left with is the slime from Rick’s penmanship! Hopefully the mayor will do the right thing and renew the pride proclamation. It’s better to do the right thing instead of trying to bolster your creds with the christofascist crowd.

  4. It’s great that Cory Reeves has done many good things for Great Falls – thank you for your service. He probably loves babies and is kind to small animals too.

But despite Tryon’s juvenile temper tantrum, name calling, and attempt to obfuscate the issue by making it all about blind loyalty to Mayor Cory with the Trump-lite “I Stand With Cory!” outrage, the real issue still remains the rationalization for the decision to skip a Pride Week proclamation. And what that rationalization reveals about the mayor’s thinking. And what the subsequent public conversation reveals about many citizens of Great Falls, including Tryon himself.
