Caught My Eye…

Hi. I’m Jackie M. (Mike) Brown, and I approved this message!

Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Trump Found Guilty (34 Times)
  • Great Falls Public Library
  • Daines Embarrasses Montana
  • Lobbyist Money
  • One More Thing

TRUMP FOUND GUILTY (34 Times):

Thursday was a great day – a historic day.

Probably most people know by now that Donald Trump became the first former American president to be convicted of felony crimes Thursday as a New York jury found him guilty of all 34 charges in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through a hush money payment to a porn actor who said the two had sex. (AP)

The sentencing date is set for July 11, 2024. Trump will appeal.

The MAGA Republicans circled the wagons in defense of Trump with many using the same talking points like “sham trial” and “rigged.”

The Republicans in the Montana delegation (Daines, Rosendale, and Zinke) have had their noses up Trump’s ass for several years released statements defending him. The Montana MAGA Republican Party said, “Today is an incredibly sad day for America” and said it was a “dark day.” Their whole email was pretty much fiction.

I guess we found that anyone can grow up and nail a porn star and if they get caught covering it up to win an election, they can be held accountable. Trump is not above the law. He received a fair trial and he lost. He will now have his chance to appeal.

History will not be kind to the MAGAs in the Republican Party for allowing Trump to destroy our country.

Meanwhile, happy hour on Thursday afternoon was just a little bit happier.

The Daily Show posted on X, “Justice Alito has called for upside down American flags to be flown at half mast.” For my MAGA friends – that last sentence was a joke.

GREAT FALLS PUBLIC LIBRARY:

Someone posted a photo of old leftover books in a dumpster from the annual “Friends of the Library Booksale” that is used to raise money for the library. The library haters went wild. The haters are still pissed that the library levy passed.

City Commissioner Rick Tryon led the charge with a blog post and a post on his Facebook page. The Friends of the Library did respond with this message:

The Friends of the Library have a wonderful used book sale each May. The volunteers spend hours collecting and organizing donated books for the sale. This year they raised over $14,000 to support the Library and we are so grateful for their efforts. The last days of the sale include 1/2 price sales, $5.00 sack sale and a special after sale day offering as many items as you want for $5.00. The Friends try to work with local non-profits to find good homes for the books that don’t sell but some of the books were not wanted by anyone. The Library did not have room to store the final leftover books so they were disposed of in the most economical way possible.”

Maybe the haters who are so infuriated over this will mark their calendars so they can join me in dropping by our wonderful Public Library and getting a few books next year.

DAINES EMBARRASSES MONTANA:

Several days after I first posted that U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) blocked Danna Jackson from becoming Montana’s first Native American federal district court judge, several other sources are reporting it:

The Associated Press (AP) reported it like this:

A Republican lawmaker from Montana blocked a Biden administration judicial nominee who would have been the state’s first Native American federal district court judge, officials said Wednesday.
Attorney Danna Jackson with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes had been nominated last month by President Joe Biden. The post requires Senate confirmation.
Sen. Steve Daines blocked Jackson from consideration because the administration never sought his consent prior to her nomination, said Rachel Dumke, a spokesperson for the lawmaker.

The AP also reported that a White House spokesperson refuted Dumke’s assertion and said members of Daines’ team had interviewed Jackson last year but that the senator refused to meet with her.

Daines looks like a crybaby. Montanans already know he’s a wimp. He’s not respected.

Dumke should be looking over her shoulder since she works for Daines. He seems to have problems with females. He also appears to have problems with people of different races.

Read the complete AP story HERE.

LOBBYIST MONEY:

This year in Montana, the MAGA folks have decided that since U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) is receiving legal campaign donations from lobbyists, this is treasonous.

In a couple years, when Steve Daines is getting legal campaign donations from lobbyists these same MAGA folks will be silent. That’s hypocritical.

You can see the donations from lobbyists and pick the election cycle HERE.

ONE MORE THING:

Former Presidential candidate and Trump supporter Nikki Haley made the news this week. Rolling Stone reports:

Days after dozens of Palestinians were killed by Israeli airstrikes against displacement camps in Southern Gaza, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley wrote “Finish them!” on Israeli artillery shells. Alongside her chilling note, Haley wrote “America loves Israel!” and autographed the bomb.

Rolling Stone also reports that Since Oct. 7, more than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s brutal retaliatory siege against the Gaza Strip. Millions of Palestinians were displaced into the southern region of Rafah, which Israel presented as a safe zone for civilians fleeing bombardment in the north. Alongside the ongoing threat that famine conditions may spread to Rafah, the area is now the subject of bombardment as Israel continues to escalate its assault on Southern Gaza.

Maybe Haley should copy Major T. J. “King” Kong (Played by Slim Pickens) from the 1964 movie, “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.”  (Video)

  1. If you ever wanted to know the details of what ties up our GF police officers all day and night, just take a look at the police blotter they posted yesterday on Facebook. Hilarious. Arcata Eye police blotter material. What a bunch of dopes we have living in this town.

I hope they keep this up as a weekly feature. Nice work GFPD.

  2. Not to be missed. The most encouraging thing you’ll read all day. Time to send the freedom caucus back to their militia christofascist MAGA redoubts in the woods where they can rant and rave all they want without doing any appreciable damage to our state. They’ve done enough. Time to get back to the Montana of old, one of comity and congeniality. Although the parties will still have their differences, we can replace the hate, vitriol and ignorance of the Galloway/Regiers with compromise and shared values for the good of the state. It can happen. We have to start somewhere.

  3. Love it.

“Before Trump spoke, one of his Republican enablers, Rep. Wesley Hunt, let Fox News know what Americans would be hearing from the former president: “We’re going to hear a steady hand. We’re going to hear the voice of a father and a grandfather. We’re going to hear a voice of the future president of this country telling us that it’s going to be okay.”

HAH! Well that sure didn’t happen. We instead heard a dyspeptic chinchilla with anger issues hollering nonsensically.”

  4. This may be the only comment I make about this whole Trump deal anywhere on the entire internet. I’m not sure who’s worse off these days, Trump being convicted because he got caught, or the giddy 3rd graders in the white house reveling in the misfortune.

I didn’t laugh when Hilary lost, I’m not laughing at Trump right now, and I won’t laugh when the other shoe drops with regard to the Biden admin.

These guys (the Executive branch) are all, regardless of political flavor, as crooked as an old country road and have been for a very long time.

  5. Trump’s incoherent babbling presser today:

It’s bad enough that politicians of every ilk use the American flag as mere stage props these days, but seeing a convicted felon using them as stage props is a disgusting disgrace to the nation. Those particular flags need to be burned after being dragged through the mud like that.

  6. Books: The local wingnuts/MAGAs are probably just angry that Friends of the Library did not drop those unwanted books at “Liberty” Hall so they could have a good old-fashioned book burning out in the parking lot.

Trump: Based on the various news stories I really expected a hung jury or maybe even acquittal. His guilt must have been overwhelmingly clear to those jurors. And it shows you how little of a trial you actually get through the lens of the news.

Bonus effect now is that Dear Leader’s inevitable appeals and so on will suck up even more of RNC donors’ hard earned dollars instead of flowing out to help elect Republican candidates.

    • I heard the Republicans raised about 34 million dollars overnight after the conviction. Crazy! Thanks, JmB

      • I read that Dear Leader warned Republican candidates across the land not to try and fundraise off the convictions because they would be stealing “his” money. Bizarro world.

Maybe that $34 million can go to helping pay off some of the huge judgments against him from other cases.

  7. Maybe Rick can console himself by imagining some of the dumped books were among the thousands MAGA folks wanted banned.

    • Good point. But I think also it highlights Rick’s lack of higher education and learning. I myself have a substantial library of books I have gathered over the years that I was always loathe to part with either because I wanted to use them for future reference, or simply intended to read some day. After many years, one’s library grows to become a real burden. Many of mine are now outdated college texts. They take up a lot of space. So regrettably every once in awhile it’s necessary to cull the herd. And it’s painful to do, especially when you get old and realize you’ll never have enough time to read them all. Judging from his displayed intellect, I seriously doubt that lil Ricky has collected even comic books, otherwise he would understand and be more sympathetic to the library dilemma. Books are old friends to many of us, but to Rick they’re door stops and things smart people value.

Excuse me while I savor this moments. Mary Trump does an excellent job of describing her uncle and his loser followers like daines, stinky, tall tale, Miss Kitty litter, etc. Simply put, they are losers.
