Thursday Thoughts

Hi. I’m Jackie M. (Mike) Brown, and I approved this message!

Here are the topics for today’s commentary:

  • Campaign Finance Reports
  • Trump Hush Money Trial
  • One More Thing

CAMPAIGN FINANCE REPORTS:

Tuesday, the Daily Montanan reported about the latest campaign finance reports for the federal races. I wrote about it in yesterday’s column.

Wednesday, the Daily Montanan reported on other statewide races (Governor, Attorney General, Supreme Court Chief Justice, Supreme Court Seat No. 3, Clerk of the Supreme Court, Secretary of State, Superintendent of Public Instruction, State Auditor, and the public service commission races).

Nothing much jumps out at me on these races. I do have my favorites in the primary and can’t wait to vote for them.

Check out the full story HERE.

TRUMP HUSH MONEY TRIAL:

As you probably know, the jurors in the Trump Hush Money Trial are now in deliberations. There are 34 counts they need to decide, so it may be a while. I think they will deliver the verdicts by Friday afternoon. The weekend has an effect on juries as they don’t want to work on the weekend or come back on Monday.

Trump gave a little speech as the court took a break. Politico reported:

“Mother Teresa could not beat these charges,” Trump said to a gaggle of reporters in the hallway. “These charges are rigged. The whole thing is rigged.”

The Associated Press (AP) has a rundown of what went on HERE.

Some folks think there will be a hung jury. Maybe so, but with 34 counts to decide I think he will be found guilty on a few. The more the better.

Full Disclosure: I am not an attorney and I have never played one on television.

ONE MORE THING:

Here are the lyrics that are stuck in my head this week.

Guess I got what I deserved
Kept you waiting there too long, my love
All that time, without a word
Did you really think that I’d forget
And regret
The special love I have for you
My baby blue

  1. A must watch for all intelligent folks who need a bit of inspiration. MAGAs need not watch. Their intellects do not aspire beyond the wit of the demented orange criminal whore monger.

But for everyone else, this is the best thing you’ll see for long time. It puts our current situation in exact historical context. And in doing so shows the dire circumstances of the coming election.

  2. It’s more important on where a candidate gets his money from.

Tester has gotten $428K from lobbyists alone.

    • Not really. Lobbyist donations are legal. The challenger and supporters always whine about the lobbyist cash given to the incumbent.
When Daines runs for reelection, the people crying about lobbyist cash now will be silent.
In the funding world, I look for in-state donations and I look at self (trying to buy the election ) funding.
      Thanks, JmB

      • Legal or not, it’s about just who’s supporting the candidate.

I’m not saying Daines won’t be accepting lobbyists cash but more importantly what’s the percentage of outside influence financing their campaign.

    • $428k out of the $31 million Tester has raised this entire cycle?

So the concern is for less than 1/62nd or 1.6% of his total?

On another interesting note supposedly the biggest source of Tester’s donations is the regular Joe $200 and under crowd, while Sheehy’s major source is the $2,000 plus elite.

Far more concerned about the elitist billionaire class trying to foist off another of their public access throttling and culture altering carpetbaggers on Montana (and America) than than local boy Tester’s 1.6% lobbyist money.

      • We’re of course talking lobbyists contributions.

Shall we disclose where the bulk of the rest comes from?
