Thursday Thoughts

Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Tester & Biden
  • Nikki Haley Folds
  • Justice Samuel Alito

TESTER & BIDEN:

Over the years, it’s a normal campaign tactic for the challenger and their supporters to try and tie U.S. Senator Jon Tester to a Democratic President because Montana is a very red state. This campaign season it’s Tester and Biden. A few years ago, the Republicans in the state tried to tie Tester to President Barack Obama.

It didn’t work then and I don’t think it will work this time.

The facts don’t matter very often in campaigns; it’s what you can make the voters believe. The point is that Tester has a long-standing track record of consistently and repeatedly standing up to President Biden and his Administration when it’s the right thing to do for Montana. You can check it out HERE.

I want my elected officials to stand up for my state and not bow to the person in the White House because they belong to your political party.

NIKKI HALEY FOLDS:

The Associated Press (AP) reports that Nikki Haley said Wednesday that she will be voting for Donald Trump in the general election, a notable show of support given their intense and often personal rivalry during the Republican primary calendar.

Haley knows that if she wants a job in the Trump cabinet or have a political career after Trump is gone, she needs to support him. Haley talked tough about Trump during the primary season, but just like most other Republicans in 2016 and 2024, she turned into a coward. Trump once mocked Haley’s husband for serving in the military and being deployed.

Nikki Haley does not have a spine. Shame on her.

U.S. SUPREME COURT JUSTICE SAMUEL ALITO:

Reuters is reporting that a provocative flag was photographed flying outside conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s vacation home last year, the New York Times reported on Wednesday, days after news that an upside-down American flag had hung outside his Virginia home in 2021. A flag bearing the phrase “Appeal to Heaven” that was carried by some Donald Trump supporters during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol flew outside Alito’s vacation home on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, in July and September of 2023, the Times reported, citing photographs and interviews.

Click HERE to see what the flag looks like.

Alito might as well fly a Trump 2024 flag and a MAGA flag. Alito has compromised himself. I want judges at all levels at least to act bipartisan.

  1. Wait minute, aren’t liberal Dems the ones that support burning the American Flag?

    • I don’t know about that. Personally, I would never burn an American flag. I do support free speech. Thanks, JmB

      • And in 1989 the US Supreme Court ruled that the burning of the flag was just that, freedom of speech.

The burner was a liberal Dem.

    • Good info. I think Daines voted with Trump about 84% of the time. Thanks, JmB

      • There’s some really damning evidence in the details of those votes that both Biden and Tester supported (or opposed), in Big Swede’s link.

For instance both were yes on “Providing money for semiconductor manufacturing, supply chain improvements and scientific research”, both yes on “Requiring certain railroad and labor organizations to accept a labor agreement”, and both yes on a whole bunch of cabinet etc. a whole bunch of appointments early in 2021.

Shocking stuff you would never expect of a D senator with a D president.

      • Thanks, Terry. That memo from Tester got the attention of Daines main man, Jason Theilman, who Daines appointed ED of the NRSC. Theilman is a nice fellow, but he is in over his head. -JmB

  2. Talk about ruining what little suspense there was.

May 1 in the Gibson room in downtown GF at 6:00 pm was the first meeting of the “Public Safety Advisory Committee”. My neighborhood council chairperson had previously been appointed to that committee and was chosen as chair that night. She is also chair of the Council of Councils and served as well as chair of Tryon’s dog-and-pony-show Crime Task Force, and who knows what else, just saying she is very involved in City stuff.

Prior to that 1st Public Safety Advisory Committee meeting, on April 25 my neighborhood council had its monthly meeting. Admittedly I did not attend it to have 1st hand knowledge of what exactly was said and by whom, but I do know our chairperson pretty much runs everything on the council and reports all doing’s from higher up the City food chain for the secretary guy to write down.

So the “Draft Meeting Minutes” of that meeting are interesting. Those report “First meeting of Levy Advisory Panel will be Wednesday, May 1, 6 pm Gibson Room of Civic Center.”

The “Levy Advisory Panel”. Astounding. Exact same time and place as the Public Safety Advisory Committee! Put a fork in it and skip right to the end, Public Safety Advisory Committee fans.

See “Neighborhood Council” section near the bottom.

  3. Apparently it’s un-American to question the patriotism of of traitorous Supreme Court judges like Alito. Great piece of Orwellian speak by Mitch. But ya gotta wonder how Biden is supposed to know in advance what traitorous flag Alito is going to fly next so that he can protect Sammy from controversy. Maybe Alito’s wife can supply the White House with a flag schedule! Would that satisfy Mitch? I doubt it.

“Even worse, McConnell blamed President Biden for not being more supportive of poor, persecuted Alito and the blatantly corrupt and likely law-breaker Clarence Thomas. Here’s McConnell’s loathsome response to a reporter asking if it was appropriate for Alito to fly his flag and whether he should recuse himself from related cases.”

MCCONNELL: It seems to me there are just nonstop attacks on the Supreme Court week after week after week, and so I’m not going to dignify that with a response. We need to leave the Supreme Court alone, protect them from people who went into their neighborhoods and tried to do them harm. Look out for the Supreme Court, that’s part of the job of the administration.
