The Monday Memo

Hello Beautiful People! Here are the topics for today’s independent commentary:

COUNTRY BOY TIM SHEEHY:

Well life on the farm is kinda laid back
Ain’t much an old country boy like me can’t hack
It’s early to rise, early in the sack
I thank God I’m a country boy

-John Denver

The lies and inconsistencies are still dogging Tim Sheehy as he attempts to win the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate in Montana.

Sheehy has enough lies and inconsistencies in his story that people are digging further into his career and finding even more stuff. His supporters are crying foul, but Sheehy would not be playing defense now if he had been honest from the beginning.

I think it is time for Sheehy to suspend his campaign and quit putting his family through this mess.

The Daily Beast is reporting that in 2023 Sheehy told a podcast, “I grew up in rural Minnesota and although we were not farmers, I grew up in an old farmstead and we were surrounded by farmland.”

The Daily Beast checked into his rural upbringing and found:

The Republican candidate grew up in a multi-million-dollar lake house in Shoreview, Minnesota, a quiet Twin Cities suburb just north of St. Paul with a population of roughly 27,000. Sheehy’s campaign confirmed to the Montana Free Press in December that he grew up in the town. According to a 1990 deed, Sheehy’s childhood home on Turtle Lake is 13 miles from the Minnesota State Capitol, 13 miles from the home of the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium, and just over 20 miles from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the Mall of America. The property sits just three miles from a Trader Joe’s market—much closer than the nearest Fleet Farm, a fishing, hunting, and farm supply store popular in the state.

It seems Sheehy was born on third base and wants people to think he hit a triple.

DAINES & CONFUSED:

As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and as a staffer for a U.S. Senator who supported the military 100%, I expect the current congressional delegation to know the difference between missiles and planes. Or, I expect their staffers to help them understand the differences.

Recently I wrote about U.S. Senator Jon Tester and the new C-130J aircraft coming to Montana, I applauded Tester because he seems to have a handle on what is happening with the military in Montana.

As for U.S. Senator Steve Daines, he appears to know nothing about the Montana military and this was apparent in a couple of social media posts he made last week about the new C-130Js going to Malmstrom.

Here is a post he made on X and a post he made on Facebook:

As of Sunday night, the posts were still online.

The C-130Js are going to the Montana Air National Guard (MANG), not Malmstrom AFB. Malmstrom’s runway is closed and the MANG uses the Great Falls International Airport runway. Daines and his staffers should know this. Daines is more worried about electing Republicans to the U.S. Senate and catering to Donald Trump than he is about taking care of his state. He’s a disgrace.

TAX DAY 2024:

Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause I’m the taxman
Yeah, I’m the taxman

-Beatles

Just a friendly reminder that today (April 15) is Tax Day 2024. The IRS expects more than 128.7 million individual tax returns to be filed by the April 15, 2024, tax deadline. (Source)

This is also a reminder that Montana is one of 11 states that taxes Social Security benefits. (Source) Maybe the bloodsuckers in the Montana legislature work on changing that.

ONE MORE THING:

Donald Trump’s history-making criminal trial starts Monday with a simple but extraordinary procedural step vital to American democracy. A group of regular citizens — Trump’s peers, in the eyes of the law — will be chosen to decide whether the former president of the United States is guilty of a crime. 12 jurors and six alternates will be picked. Is this a great country or what?

## HAVE A GREAT WEEK ##

  1. This farce of a trial going on in NY is what is wrong with the country….now the Jack Smith documents trial that’s a real charge, makes sense to everyone. There’s a reason for the charges people can understand even if some folks think it’s politically motivated.
