SHEEHY HIT PIECE?

In the time I have been involved in politics (around 30 years) and writing about it, I think the best definition of a “hit piece” is when negative things you disagree with are written about your candidate. You have to have some tough hide to run for office and it appears Tim Sheehy is lacking in that area.

The right-leaning Daily Caller is coming to Republican Montana Senate Candidate Tim Sheehy’s rescue with a story titled, “EXCLUSIVE: WaPo Harasses Veteran’s Wife After He Refused To Engage On Alleged Hit Piece Against Tim Sheehy.”

The Daily Caller reports:

A voicemail transcript obtained by the Daily Caller shows that Washington Post reporter Beth Reinhard called to harass the wife of a military veteran who served with Republican Montana Senate Candidate Tim Sheehy after the veteran refused to participate in an alleged hit piece on Sheehy.

I guess “harass” is in the eye of the beholder. I read the transcript and it was a reporter being a reporter.

Sheehy posted this message on X:

The smear artists @washingtonpost are writing yet another hit piece attacking me for serving my country—even asking questions about my medical history and demanding my personal records. I’m done playing the liberal media’s game—here’s how DC “reporters” treat veterans.

Sheehy then goes on to list the information for which the reporter was asking.

I did not see anywhere in the defense of Sheehy that the Daily Caller mentioned that Sheehy’s lying started the whole deal. That’s the bottom line. Now everything he has done is questioned and even some relationships from the past will be examined.

I think Tim is young and immature. I don’t think he really understands politics. Sheehy is applying for a job in the U.S. Senate where only 100 people serve, and they serve six-year terms. He should expect scrutiny. When he lies, he should expect more scrutiny. When his company loses over $77 million, he should expect scrutiny about his leadership in that area, too.

I think it’s time for Sheehy to grow up. His best path is to step aside because I guarantee the scrutiny is not about to stop.

MANG TO RECEIVE NEW C-130J AIRCRAFT:

By having almost 18 years in the U.S. Senate and being Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, U.S. Senator Jon Tester is in a unique position and has the clout to help the military in Montana.

Tester has been pushing the Air Force to select the Montana Air National Guard Base (MANG) for the earliest possible delivery of the C-130Js – and he accomplished the goal.

In a press release, Tester said that Great Falls will officially be the first of four selected military bases to receive delivery of new C-130J aircraft. Tester applied pressure on Air Force leadership resulting in MANG being selected for delivery ahead of the Connecticut, Minnesota, and Illinois Air National Guard bases. Tester first announced in September that MANG would receive eight C-130J aircraft and pushed the Air Force to select MANG for the earliest delivery possible.

Tester secured $840 million in the latest FY24 Appropriations package to help ensure MANG’s C-130J deliveries remain on schedule. Additionally, Tester successfully secured more than $1.7 billion in funding for 16 C-130Js in the FY23 Appropriations package and $1.8 billion in funding for 16 C-130Js for the Air National Guard in the FY22 Appropriations package. Tester was the only member of Montana’s congressional delegation to vote for this funding.

I’m glad someone was watching out for our Montana military.

While I miss the jets flying around Great Falls, it is good that we still have a flying mission at MANG, and it looks like we will have a flying mission years into the future.

  1. As a Vietnam vet myself, I knew a lot of other vets too. In fact pretty much everyone my age at that time had been to Nam. All my friends had. We weren’t the college deferment types. And we never talked or bragged about our time in Vietnam. Occasionally bits and pieces would sneak out, but that was it. We knew that there were a whole lotta guys who had it way worse than we did, and a lotta guys who never came back. So we just kept our mouths shut.

Interesting to note that Darrel Erhlick did a series of interviews with Vietnam Vets from around Montana called something like Vietnam Voices. It’s an absolutely fascinating series. It’s on you tube. I recommend it. While listening to that series I discovered that I knew many of the folks being interviewed. And even though I knew them, I never knew that they had served in Nam. That’s how quiet vets were back then. No need to attempt to parlay your military service into a means to obtain a job or political career. And no need to shout out to the world that you’re something special. You’re not.

That’s why I get outraged when I see guys like Sheehy totally disrespecting veteran tradition. So you served. We respect your service. Now shut up and get on with your life. A lot of us did the same. Show us what you got, not what you did. And do it truthfully. Put away your trumpet. You just ain’t that special.

    Good article on the subject.

P.S. There’s even a vet from Billings who was at the battle in the movie We Were Soldiers. Unbelievably fascinating and humble guy.

  2. That was some real harrassment all right. “Could you please pass along my number to your husband”.

This “They’re attacking my service to the country!” nonsense is the same as when people start hollering “racism” if something they said is questioned. 100% deflection.

Just answer the questions about the tall tales you have told, Tim. No one is trying to denigrate your service as such.

    • Not only did he lie, but apparently he did so in such a blatant fashion as to think he could outwit the medical community without them calling him on it. That takes either some real chutzpah or a severe MAGA brain. I’m thinkin’ MAGA brain. That’s why they ran him. A 38 year old with MAGA syndrome could easily serve another forty years as a senator.

They should have maybe thought this one through a bit first. Dude’s a loose canon with one shell missing. Next thing you know he’ll be sayin’ he can see Russia from his ranch! He’s that kinda candidate. All looks and no brains.

Here’s what an ER doc says about his story.

”Speaking as a trauma surgeon, you’re absolutely right about Sheehy. There’s absolutely no reason for doctors to report a bullet in someone, unless it just got there. People come in with “retained missiles” all the time. If there’s a healed scar over it, it doesn’t matter at all – it just means they can’t get an MRI.  And of course it’s obvious when someone has been recently shot vs years ago. The whole story is complete nonsense from bottom to top.”
