- There Aren’t Two Sides to Facts
CASCADE COUNTY ELECTIONS:
Many of you have already seen the report by Montana Free Press (MTFP) about an effort by supporters of Cascade County Clerk and Recorder Sandra Merchant to reinstate the election oversight duties stripped from her by county commissioners in December has proved unsuccessful.
Apparently, the petition failed by a large margin to get the required signatures.
I think this is a good thing. Read the complete report from MTFP HERE.
MONTANA ABORTION BALLOT LANGUAGE:
The Montana Free Press (MTFP) is reporting that the Montana Supreme Court released its revised ballot language on Monday to describe a constitutional abortion rights amendment that voters may consider this fall, rejecting a version drafted last week by Attorney General Austin Knudsen.
MTFP also reported: But even with an official ballot statement authored by the court now in hand, the next steps for Constitutional Initiative 14 remain murky because of differing interpretations of the Supreme Court’s decision, leading to mixed reactions to the ruling Monday afternoon.
In other words, the Republicans will try to block this amendment from getting on the ballot every chance they get. It looks like the Secretary of State’s office will be the next roadblock.

THERE AREN’T TWO SIDES TO FACTS:
In case you missed it, Chris Quinn, who is the editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, penned an opinion piece about his paper’s coverage of Donald Trump.
His article may be the best thing you will read this year.
Quinn says:
The north star here is truth. We tell the truth, even when it offends some of the people who pay us for information.
The truth is that Donald Trump undermined faith in our elections in his false bid to retain the presidency. He sparked an insurrection intended to overthrow our government and keep himself in power. No president in our history has done worse.
Further down in the article, Quinn writes this:
Personally, I find it hard to understand how Americans who take pride in our system of government support Trump. All those soldiers who died in World War II were fighting against the kind of regime Trump wants to create on our soil. How do they not see it?
I feel the same way. How can someone be that ignorant?
Quinn closes with:
Our nation does seem to be slipping down the same slide that Germany did in the 1930s. Maybe the collapse of government in the hands of a madman is inevitable, given how the media landscape has been corrupted by partisans, as it was in 1930s Germany.

If you’re the type of person who likes to read and listen to lectures, I recommend this guy, Kurt Andersen. He has written an excellent book attempting to explain how our country got so screwed up. It’s a fascinating fun read called Fantasy Land. Hint. Our country has been screwed up since day one.
Here he gives a lecture about his book. He mentions facts and why we disregard them. It’s in our nature as Americans.
