Greetings! Here are the topics for today’s column:
- Great Falls Public Library
- Trump Stays on Ballots
- Over-The-Counter Birth Control
GREAT FALLS PUBLIC LIBRARY:
The Electric has a new report about the Great Falls Public Library and the discussion about the 1993 management agreement between the library and the city.
City Commissioner Rick Tryon wants the commission to consider taking mills from the library and using them for public safety funding. The library recently had a levy request go before the voters and it passed. Tryon and his fellow commissioners put forth a levy request for public safety and also an infrastructure bond request. They were both soundly defeated by the voters.
In case you did not know, I voted for the library levy and against the public safety levy and the infrastructure bonds. If the city takes any funding from the library, I will never support any levy requests for public safety.
So now Tryon and the other sore losers are attempting to take money from the library.
The Electric also reported that the library board will retain outside counsel.

TRUMP STAYS ON BALLOTS:
I’m not sure it was much of a surprise, but the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that states can’t bar former President Trump — or any other federal candidates — from the ballot under a rarely-used constitutional provision that prohibits those who “engaged in insurrection” from holding office. (Source)
Republicans cheered and spiked the ball, although many Republicans want the states to have more rights (States’ Rights) than the big bad federal government.
I doubt Trump sees any more 9-0 decisions in his future. If these cases are confusing, Politico has a great guide to Trump’s cases HERE.
OVER-THE-COUNTER BIRTH CONTROL:
NPR is reporting that Opill, the first oral contraceptive pill to be available without a prescription in the U.S., has shipped to retailers nationwide. It will be sold online and in the family planning aisle of drugstores, convenience stores and supermarkets later this month, the manufacturer announced Monday.
Will this send pro-lifers over the deep end?
Check out the complete report from NPR HERE.

I think I read Marc Racicot’s filing with the court in favor of removing Trump. Reminds me of when Marc was the face of the Republicans during the FL 537 vote difference in the Bush Gore battle. At the time my elder brother was amazed that Montana produce such a well spoken intelligent man. My brother was a real jerk.
Haha. MARY! 😂
There is an interesting item on tonight’s GF city commission agenda. The commissioners are being asked to greenlight some rezoning and other favors for a couple property owners so they can turn around and sell their property to developers to build a new apartment and townhouse complex over by Garden Home Park on the southwest bank.
The project is vehemently opposed by some neighbors, primarily on traffic and parking grounds, and the neighborhood council voted no as well. To me it looks like the City would also be giving away a portion of the public’s Garden Home Park on top of rezoning a sleepy single family neighborhood into a higher density one.
Commissioner Tryon regularly blithers that he stands foursquare for “the people” and against good old boy business as usual blah blah blah in Great Falls, whoever and whatever those nameless bogeymen are. We shall see if he stands foursquare with the longtime homeowners of that neighborhood.
Thanks. He probably thinks nobody is paying attention. -JmB
These library haters are truly some disgusting people with their endless attacks on the library, and now attempts to steal their funds. By attempting to strong arm money from their budget, they have exposed themselves to be simply bullies and thugs. That’s a helluva of way to govern. There is no organization less deserving of their hatred than our much beloved library. It is a fantastic community resource that provides many outstanding services which we all use from time to time.
I would suggest to little tyrant tryon that he maybe ought to attempt to burnish the image of the police department as a way to garner votes instead of continually running down the library. After all, who better to brag up the cops than their biggest groupie, lil Ricky? (I wonder if he wears his toy badge when no one’s looking?). But alas, Ricky seems to be of the opinion that you catch more flies with sh*t than honey! And poor little fella doesn’t seem to understand that his tactics only serve to drive decent people away from his point of view. Maybe he should try being a library groupie for awhile instead of having his lips firmly attached to he PPD, posterior of the police department. I’ll bet the library would even give him a little toy badge to wear too!
Bottom line? Tyrant tryon has done more to inadvertently bolster support for the library than anything else in a long time. And for that, we should thank him for being so effectively stupid!

States Rights — only used as an argument when it’s convenient.
Otherwise lets bring on the highway, welfare, education, healthcare, and other funding schemes that the Federal Government is so known for.
And as far as earning your Federal Election keep? 10 states, as I recall, banned Lincoln from the Ballot and no one batted an eye. Lincoln won anyway and the rest was history.
They kept Lincoln off the ballot because they didn’t like him … They tried to keep Trump off the ballot because they don’t like him.
What the folks in Colorado have seemingly failed to realize is that it’s actually the Electoral College that determines our Federal Elections — You can still win regardless of whether or not you’re on the ballot.
Good points and information. Thanks, JmB
