Happy Monday! Here are the topics for today’s column:
- Cascade County Commission
- Super Tuesday
- State of the Union
- One More Thing
CASCADE COUNTY COMMISSION:
A faithful reader alerted me that former Great Falls City Commissioner Eric Hinebauch is running for Cascade County Commissioner. Hinebauch is a Republican.
This could create a primary. I have not seen if the current county commissioner, Republican Rae Grulkowski, is running for reelection.
According to the Cascade County Democrats website, Don Ryan is running for Cascade County Commissioner. (Source)
It is hard to find information about local (county/city races).
I feel that Grulkowski is in over her head with the duties of county commissioner. We’ll see if others feel that way.
Hinebauch’s campaign Facebook page can be found HERE.
SUPER TUESDAY:
Super Tuesday used to be a great day for political junkies like me, but this time around with the candidates basically decided, tomorrow will be a yawner unless Nikki Haley wins several states.
The last I heard, about 16 states and American Samoa have primaries or caucuses on Super Tuesday. PBS has a great guide for Super Tuesday HERE.
STATE OF THE UNION:
The last State of the Union (SOTU) before the General Election will probably be the largest audience President Joe Biden will have access to before the election, so he needs to make it count.
There will be a lot of jockeying from both sides. I like to watch the event on C-SPAN as they start broadcasting early and they don’t have the political pundits chiming in.
The SOTU is scheduled for Thursday evening. Freshman Alabama senator Katie Britt will provide the Republican response.
ONE MORE THING:
In case you missed it, KFC has introduced the “Chizza.” According to KFC:
From the fried chicken chain that brought you the Double Down, KFC has done it again – pairing the unexpected to create another mouthwatering meal. Starting Feb. 26 for a limited time, KFC is introducing the international smash hit, Chizza (“cheet-za”), to KFC menus in the U.S. It’s not pizza, it’s Chizza: two 100% white meat Extra Crispy™ fried chicken filets topped with zesty marinara sauce, melty mozzarella cheese and crispy pepperoni. I ask, once again, is this a great country or what?

The SOS office has a list of who has filed for statewide offices as well as reps and senators.
Interesting matchup in SD 13 (replacing termed out Fitzpatrick), with nutcase Lola Sheldon-Galloway up against fellow Repub Josh Kassmeier, who is pretty hard right but doesn’t vote for 100% of the looney stuff.
Also, Steve Fitzpatrick playing the “term limits avoidance shell game” by filing now for a House seat, in new HD24 which I believe covers a big chunk of what used to be Fred Anderson territory.

As for a list of who has filed in Cascade County for more local candidates/questions, it’s about what you would expect out of the current and recently departed gang down at our elections office, a giant “We’re sorry, but there is not a web page matching your entry” in response to clicking on the link that is supposed to display these at:

Thanks. I check the SOS website a few times a week. It’s too bad there’s not a webpage listing who has filed for local (county) races. Missoula and Yellowstone have pretty easy access to the information. -JmB
