Greetings! Here are the topics for today’s commentary:
- Cascade County Election Administrator
- Rosendale & COVID
- Patrick O’Brien
CASCADE COUNTY ELECTION ADMINISTRATOR:
Just a reminder that Cascade County Commissioners are scheduled to conduct interviews for the election administrator position on Tuesday, February 6. (TODAY). The Electric reports that there are four candidates for the election administrator position: Lynn DeRoche, Nancy Donovan, Rina Fontana Moore, and Terry Thompson.
The Electric says Commissioners will open their meeting at 8:45 a.m. and have blocked out 90 minutes per interview, though they may take less time, according to their agenda. Interviews are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Commissioners will conduct interviews in the tax appeal room and the public will not be permitted in the room, but the interviews will be broadcast via Zoom, according to the agenda.
More information about the meeting, including ZOOM information, can be found HERE.
ROSENDALE & COVID:
I would like to congratulate U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT/02) for getting the distinction of telling such a big lie that PolitiFact rated it “Pants on Fire.”
What a dumbass.
In his campaign ad, Rosendale says “It’s been revealed that Fauci brought COVID to the Montana one year before COVID broke out in the U.S.!” It charges in all-caps before asking readers to, “Donate today and hold the D.C. bureaucracy accountable!”
PolitiFact reports that Rosendale has repeatedly said a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases lab in his state infected bats with a coronavirus shipped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China one year before the COVID-19 outbreak.
PolitiFact closes its review of the false claim with, “Rosendale’s ad is inaccurate and ridiculous. We rate it Pants on Fire!”
The damage that Rosendale has done with his fake claims about the Rocky Mountain Labs in Hamilton is considerable.
PATRICK O’BRIEN:
MTN News is reporting that Patrick O’Brien of Great Falls has been sentenced for his admitted actions during the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
According to MTN News from information they received from the U.S. Department of Justice, O’Brien has been sentenced to 36 months probation, 90 days home detention, and 100 hours of community service, and also has been ordered to pay $500 in restitution. He is also prohibited from possessing any firearms during the period of probation.
This sentence is too weak. I do not see anything in this sentence to make O’Brien think twice before he tries to overthrow the government again. The MAGA folks in Great Falls will probably make him Grand Marshal of the Independence Day parade or something to reward him for his work.
MTN News also says that O’Brien is the seventh person with direct Montana ties to be sentenced for actions at the Capitol that day.

Good Morning Jackie,
I am wondering about yoour opinion on the fiasco with the immigration/border bill that gives the Republicans essentially everything they want but now they refuse to accept it.
Similarly, I previously made a comment on Governor Gianforte supporting a defiance of the Supreme Courts’ ruling related to federal control over the borders. You indicated you were going to do some research.
This article is very informative:

The item that surprised me msot was the fact that Montana National Guard members have been deployed to the southern border. I have not seen this in any main stream news outlets. I am dooubtful that the majority of Montanans know this. Your thoights?
As for the border issue, I am not too surprised that the bill might die because it’s an election year and neither side wants to give the other a win. Politics are above everything during a presidential election year.
As for the border and the MT national guard, I think the MT Guard has been providing aviation support for some time. It might surprise people where some of our Guard folks are deployed. Some places are classified, others are not.
