Caught My Eye…

We made it to Friday – Congratulations!

Here are the topics that caught my eye this week:

  • Missing the Point
  • National Defense Authorization Act
  • FCS Semifinals
  • One More Thing

MISSING THE POINT:

Since the Cascade County Commissioners stripped Clerk and Recorder Sandra Merchant of her role overseeing county elections, the supporters of Merchant are starting the whining process.

I saw that State Senator Jeremy Trebas (R-GF) posted a video on YouTube with his thoughts about the matter. You can see it HERE. Over at the E-City Beat blog, Jeni Dodd writes about the issue. You can read her commentary HERE. You can go to other social media sites and read comments that support and oppose the move.

I don’t begrudge these two citizens for voicing their concerns. In fact, I enjoyed watching and reading their comments. They (meaning Cascade County Republicans) have a big problem. The problem in the Elections Office was being run so bad that two of three members of the County Commission, all Republicans, voted to take those duties from a fellow Republican, Sandra Merchant.

That started the implosion of the Cascade County Republicans. Some of the hateful speech directed from Republicans to Republican Commissioners Joe Briggs and Jim Larson crossed the line. I bet they receive lumps of coal in their socks. The pure MAGA folks are pissed.

I think when the local Republicans are looking for candidates to run for office they should first find out if the person they are recruiting or who stepped forward to run, has any experience that would help them in the job if elected. That might prevent something like what happened this week from ever getting to the discussion phase.

NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT:

The U.S. Senate and U.S. House passed the National Defense Authorization Act this week with three of the four members of the Montana Congressional delegation supporting the bill.

The lone “NAY” vote was from U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT/02) whose district includes Malmstrom AFB and the Montana Air National Guard. (Source)

On X, Rosendale posted the following message:

Any Member of Congress who votes in favor of the D.C. Cartel’s Woke NDAA is voting to:

Allow the U.S. govt to spy on you.
Fund taxpayer funded gender reassignment surgeries.
Allow the U.S. military to pick you up and lock you up in Guantanamo Bay without representation. (Source)

I don’t know if any of these things Rosendale talks about are in the bill or not.

I do know the bill will provide funding to support a 5.2 percent pay raise for both military servicemembers and the DOD civilian workforce, the largest increase in decades.
The bill helps maintain and modernize our nuclear deterrent.
You can find more information about what the bill does HERE.

Rosendale does not seem the understand that there has to be some give and take in the legislative process, especially when the House and Senate are controlled by different parties. The House backed the NDAA 310 to 118, and the Senate backed the NDAA 87 to 13.

Shame on Rosendale for not supporting our military personnel.

FCS SEMIFINALS:

Don’t forget that North Dakota State plays the Montana Grizzlies in Missoula on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Mountain time. The game is on ESPN2.

The other semifinal game is Friday night with the University of Albany playing at South Dakota State. The game is on ESPN2. It starts at 5:00 p.m. Mountain time.

ONE MORE THING:

There is no “slippery slope” toward loss of liberty, only a long staircase where each step down must first be tolerated by the American people and their leaders. – Alan K. Simpson

  1. Matt Rosendale’s petty little personal culture wars are more important to him than taking care of the men and women (and their families) in the U.S. military services. Pretty pathetic. He either hates or is totally indifferent to our troops.

  2. Well I did it. I watched Trebas’ video, and for a moment I thought I was watching Charlie Chaplin without a mustache in the film The Great Dictator! Jeremy was literally bursting at the seams with sound and fury and self-righteous indignation! I thought it was a performance worthy of a Donald, the MAGA equivalent of an Oscar only instead of an Oscar you get an orange mini statue of Trump! It was quite moving in a bowel movement sort of way. It was a call to arms to defeat anyone who disagrees with Jeremy and a rambling bumbling defense of Ms. Merchant.

I did take issue with one thing about his diatribe. He titles it the “Bud Lighting” of Larson and Briggs for their sensible vote to turn election duties over to a professional. That analogy just doesn’t work for me because the Bud Light commercial was about transgender politics. I’m not sure that Jer knows what the prefix trans means. It simply means across, so a transvestite dresses across gender lines. Trans across, vestere, to dress. In other words, you can’t be two things at once! This is the Holy Grail in MAGA world. You’re either one or the other, and never the two shall meet!

Therefore, we have Ms. Merchant who is an admitted election denier but who also wants to be the auditor who runs the election! In other words, two things at once. This alone ought to send the MAGAs into paroxysms! She wants to be a trans MAGA!

Like the MAGAs love to say, if you think there’s more than one gender, try milking a bull! I think Jer is milking the bull on this one!

    Here’s Charlie Chaplin’s version of Jeremy’s speech.
