CANVASS OF ELECTION RESULTS:
A short note on the Cascade County Elections website notifies citizens of the following:
The Canvass of election results for the Municipal General elections is scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023.
I guess they figure we know where and what time.
I did a little more digging and I found out that on the Cascade County events page, the canvass is listed. It starts at 1:30 p.m. in the commission chambers. Click HERE for more information and the agenda.
I heard a new date/time had been decided upon when I read an article from The Electric. Thanks to The Electric for keeping us informed on the local issues.
The Electric reported that two of the county commissioners (Joe Briggs and Jim Larson) had issues with the latest canvass, but Commissioner Rae Grulkowski said they were following the law and that it was the job of the canvass board to do the math themselves based on the reports provided by Merchant.
What law they are following was not disclosed.
The MAGA folks like Sandra Merchant and Rae Grulkowski remind me of the dog who caught the car. They are an embarrassment.
Read the complete report from The Electric HERE.
WORD OF THE YEAR:
The Associated Press is reporting that in an age of deepfakes and post-truth, as artificial intelligence rose and Elon Musk turned Twitter into X, the Merriam-Webster word of the year for 2023 is “authentic.”
I thought it was going to be “senile.”
Check out the AP report HERE.
FOOTBALL ROUNDUP:
I went 5-5 in the college pigskin pick contest and 11-5 in the NFL pigskin pick contest.
On Saturday, the Montana Western football team (9-2) completed the 2023 season after they lost to the College of Idaho Yotes (9-2) in the NAIA Football Championship Series Second Round. (Source) The final score was 49-42. Congrats to Montana Western for a great season.
I enjoyed watching the Michigan and Ohio State football game. Both teams were undefeated with Michigan getting the win. The Alabama and Auburn game was crazy with Alabama pulling out the victory at the end.
This week we have conference championships. It all starts Friday night with #6 Oregon and #4 Washington squaring off for the PAC-12 Championship. The C-USA championship is also Friday night.
On Saturday, it’s a full day with eight conference championships. The Big 12 championship has #20 Oklahoma and #7 Texas, and the one I am looking forward to is #1 Georgia vs #8 Alabama for the SEC championship. (Source)
After all these conference champions are decided, we will get to see who the final four teams are for the national championship, plus we will find out all the bowl selections.
This week the FCS Playoffs continue with the second round, and we should be able to watch the Cats and Griz play on Saturday. Both games will be televised on ESPN+. I am not sure of any other television coverage.
The Montana State Bobcats host North Dakota State on Saturday in Bozeman. The game starts at 1:00 p.m. (Source)
The Montana Grizzlies host Delaware on Saturday in Missoula. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. (Source)
Good luck to the Cats and Griz.

Looks as though there will be a new chairperson for the Cascade County Commission in January.
Sounds like it was quite a lively and invigorating commission meeting. But in the end, adios to the reign of Grulkowski. For a few years anyhow.

Thanks. I imagine there are several MAGA folks thinking about running for county commissioner to help Grulkowski. I think Larson is up next. -JmB
Help her do what, is the question.
I haven’t read about any great accomplishments during her time as chair except running interference for Merchant.
Unless not getting the business of the county done in a timely manner or at all is an accomplishment, as Briggs and Larson have claimed is happening. But of course we also haven’t read what she supposedly isn’t doing.
